inventory upadte issue

You can see in the Inventory output as well as in robtest that there seems to be NO BARCODE on any of the tapes.

Either NO Barcode or Barcode is unreadable.

All NBU can do with these tapes is to add a Logical media id for each of them - A00... NBU will only add barcode field if there is an actual barcode reported by the robot.

Maybe you can try to physich inventory by your tape library.

So do i need to contact data centre people for checking or replacing barcode?

NOTHING can be done from NBU side. Maybe move them in the meantime to a pool that is not used for backups. Someone needs to physically remove those tapes from the robot and check them.

If the robot has a barcode reader, it is never a good idea to use non-barcoded media (or unreadable labels). Every time you do a robot inventory, the non-barcoded media will be added as new media - causing all sorts of problems if valid backups exist on those tapes.

Non-barcoded media need to be treated differently - do a 'physical inventory' - vmphyinv - on the slots containing non-barcoded media (see Commands manual for usage and examples).

now there two more slots which are shown as containing media with out no barcode for robot 2.

Logically add new media ?????? (barcode <NONE>) to robot slot 197.

but in GUI these slots are shown in robot 1 and media and barcode are visible there for these slots 197,198.

another issue for robot 1:

there is media with id A0091 and barcode A0091L2 , but in inventory it fails with

Update failed: could not add new media ID '0091L2' into slot 117
Insert media failed:
media ID not unique in database (34)
 

as there is another media with media id B0091 and barcode B0091L2.

its not reading A and B in barcode picking only 0091L2.

is there any fix for that ?

for 100% certain, is what the library is telling NBU.

If there is no barcode, it is bacause the library, not NetBackup, is having the problem.

Netback does not look at what is in a library, rarther, the library tells NBU what it has.

Any issues here are nothing to do with NBU.  Robtest is only displaying what the library is sending to it.

About your latest issue:

It seems that you unfortunately allowed the default media id generation from the start..

The NBU default is to store the LAST 6 digits of the barcode. You ordered different ranges for a reason:

A000....
B000....

But the entire Barcode is A00001L2

The problem now is that if you allow NBU default, the media-id is stored as 0001L2.

Now when you introduce the new B-range, NBU will try to add B00001L2 as  00001L2 - 'media id not unique in database'.........

PLEASE do the following:

Delete ALL 'unassigned' media.

In the Inventory GUI, select 'Update', then Advanced. Click on Media id Generation Tab.

Add robot number, Barcode length: 8, Genration Rule: 1:2:3:4:5:6

Your media-id's will now be stored with the 1st 6 characters.
You will have to regularly delete media as and when they expire (deassigned) and re-inventory until all media-id's are fixed in NBU.

In the meantime:

Eject all the problematic tapes and physically inspect the barcodes. If they seem OK, get your hardware vendor to check out the barcode reader on the robot hand/gripper. There might be a problem with the barcode reader..

Maybe NOT a good idea to perform the steps that I suggested above while there's a possible problem with the barcode reader.
Preview updates first - as long as you see ?????? barcodes, no NOT update NBU config. These 'non-barcoded' media are also added as A0..... - same as your barcoded media. This will cause MAJOR headaches down the line.....

media id generation rule is fine , there is no issue with it.

moreover its not set to default.

contacted dtacentre person , he checked in library, he found that there are total 6 media whose barcode are not readable. even he does not know why.

please suggest.
