NBU status: 96, EMM status: Cleaning media is not available

Two things to check here:

1. Is the cleaning tape you have of the correct density if hcart3 the cleaning type should have a 3 on the end)

2. Does the tape in the library have any cleanings remaining - shown in the columns of the None Pool or robot view

.... is it of the same type/density as the drive in question? (i.e. HCART)

What pool is it in? (should be the pool NONE)

vmquery -m <media i>

where <media id> - is the media id of the cleaning tape.

1.) Data Cartridge Media Type is HCART but they are LT0 4 and LT0 5 (both LT0 supported by my Tape Library) and my Cleaning Tape is also same

2.) The cleanings remaining Column show only a dash sign means "-"

But my Tape Library Console shows remaining 20. See the below snap for your reference:

Have a look at your barcode rules for cleaning tape. You'll probably want something along the lines of the attached.

Have just seen your other post, prior to your vmquery output that you provided for Martin.

If you want to be able to clean your drives via NetBackup then a cleaning tape needs to be inventoried as such into a "normal" slot on the library that NB 'knows' about.

If your tape is in a reserved slot and cleaning is handled by the library then it will be hidden from NetBackup

I would have expected NetBackup to know that the drive had been cleaned if the library had done it

However, if you have set your system up for the library to clean the drive then you cannot do it in NetBackup.

You need to choose which system you want to use

So your error 96 is totally normal if cleaning is handled by the library - i would suggest you use a command on the library to clean the drive - once clean this should be detected by NetBackup and the drives status changed

If not handled by the library then the tape needs to be seen in the library by NetBackup, set to be the correct tape type and then you will be able to run a "clean now" in NetBackup

Thanks all for their kind replies. I dont know what happened. My Tape Drive started taking backups. I did just one thing. I did change the Value from 0 to 1 under Cleaning Frequesny (In Hours). Even I did not restart the Services which said by Netbackup when I changed the Value from 0 to 1. See the below snap for your reference:

Did you change it back?

If not NB will try to clean the drive automatically after 1 hour of mount time.

I'm presuming this was initially set to 0 as it was a concious decision not to let NB automatically clean tapes as it was either being done manually or by  the library itself?

I've a feeling that changing this setting may have reset the "drive requires cleaning flag" .....
