GENERAL ERROR: NDMP Backups are hardware dependent. Restores to other NDMP devices or Operating Systems will fail.

NDMP backups are only restorable via the filer OS which created the backup.
Note: NDMP is a standard protocol to handle filer-type backup and restore operation, however the actual backup and restore operation is handled by the filer binaries, and the fact that each vendors (Netapp, EMC, to name a few) has their own filesystem structure and snapshot management, Netbackup would not be able to override the backend operation of filer.-Saurabh
