    • The default behavior in NetBackup is for a DSSU relocation job to first divide its list of images to be duplicated into separate groups for each retention level represented in the list.  Each of these retention groups is separated into individual batches that do not exceed 25 gigabytes of data per batch. Next, a bpduplicate command is executed to handle each batch of images.  If enough drive resources are available, all of these duplication jobs will immediately activate.  Otherwise, there will be a mix of active and queued duplication jobs based on drive availability.

All of this batching behavior is the responsibility of the bpbrmds process that runs on the media server that originally wrote to the DSSU.  For debugging purposes, the bpbrmds process will write logging information to files in the bpbrmds log directory on the media server, if this directory is present.

And Duplication process flow for NetBackup 6.x describing bpbrmds's part:

  • What problem are you facing? Why or how have you defined that the issue is with bpbrmds ?

Have you raised a call with Symantec Technical Support ?

  • (your OP was just for information), maybe you could provide a little background on your environment & the issue you're facing?

OS, NB versions, errors etc etc.

  • Hi All ,

Again thanks for this information but i just want to know has this process would be create an issue after relocation.

We also logged a case with Tech Support but TSE suggested upgrade NBU version because this is kind of BUG in 6.5.4.

OS :- Solaris 10 , NB :-6.5.4 , No errors but images was not expires after copmletion of DSSU.

And for your kind information i have two Sites were we faced this issue but after recycle the issue was still present then we saw this process and kill manually and recycle the NB Services and the DSSU work again properly.

    Thanks

  • Duplication in DSSU does not mean that disk images is taken off disk and put on tape. It simply duplicates images to tape.

The whole logic with DSSU is to still have the images on disk for quick restores and data on tape for long-term retention. It will stay on disk until high water mark is reached or until it naturally expires.

Disk cleanup is explained in this TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH66149

About processes from 'long time back' - intermittent comms errors bewteen master and media server could cause processes to 'hang'.

Please upgrade your NBU environment to 7.x to take advantage of updated binaries that include bug fixes, new features and also ensure you of continued support (6.x will be EOSL in October).

  • Hi Marianne ,

After my Obsevation this process(bpbrmds) may be related to DSSU realocation. When i take a backup on disk and realocate to Tape and that time duplication jobs failed or killed might be this sprocess hung on media servers.

    process name :- bpbrmds

After kill this process and recycle of NBU services the DSSU reallocation running.

I faccd this issue two times and same thing was done and it's working.

Might be it's not a solution but issue was resolved.

    Thanks

    Bharat

  • Revaroo has told you above that bpbrmds is related to DSSU and now you mark your own post as solution?????

I have moved Solution to revaroo's post.
