At the moment you can only take ndmp remote (across the lan) , local (to tape as you configured), or via CIFS.
Replication director would involve creating a snapshot, maybe replicating that to another site, and then putting it onto storage media (disk or tape) using either (remote or local). so not much change in that regard.
NDMP accelerator will be really handy :)
