Netbackup - Restore issue

That was not a lot of information ...

The "server  does not contain any backups.." can mean you are not asking Netbackup to look at the right client:

All thease name are DIFFRENT in netbackup view:

• BACKUPACC
• backupacc
• backupacc.acme.com

Ensure you type in the right name - both in regards to case and with/with doman name.

You say that the backup stopped working (if I understand correctly).... When last did a successful backup run for BACKUPACC? 

Please run Client Backup report for this client name and select 'earliest available'.

The folder may still be in images folder, but if all backups have expired, then the folder name will still be there - just nothing to restore.

Three important criteria when searching for client backups: 

Name (correct spelling/case, etc)

Policy type

Date

There must be valid, unexpired backups for the client name and policy type for the date (or date range) specified.

I am trying to get the information you have requested.It looks like our backup tape library has stopped functioning and we appear to have lost access to the NetBackup catalog. 

We get this error; WARNING: server  does not contain any backups for client using the specified policy type (NDMP) as requested by client.

OK - loosing access to the robot does not provide "server  does not contain any backups for client using the specified policy type". So rule that out, but get the roboto up and running else backup and restore won't work.

Loosing access to the Netbackup catalog is very serious, any reasong for beliving so - did you have a disk crash or simelary ?

The warning has nothing to do with the tape library.

It means that no backups were found in NBU catalog on the master server for the criteria that you have specified.

Herewith a repeat of my previous questions:

Hi Guys,

Havent heard anything back from the end user yet but I have been doing my research into this. They cant access the Netbackup catalog, could it be that they have lost the catalog database files?nbdb.log, nbdb.db, index_nbdb.db.

Does this command give a list of backupids?

If it does, the catalog should be ok

bpimagelist -d 01/01/1970 -l

Please find out what they mean by saying 'They cant access the Netbackup catalog'.

Are backups running every day?

What does 'Client Backup report' produce? (bpimagelist output will also help).

Are Catalog backups configured and running everyday?

Let be sure first, of what they really lost.

There are no backups available for the client, even though the end user is certain there should be.
