Netbackup inventory robot can't see media tape

Hi,

I have been facing a problem with tapes.

Most of the times required tapes are already available in the physical libraries, At the same time, if i run the inventory on the master server, We loaded 104 media tapes but we can only see 1 tape.

This is a tape library issue or netbackup configuration? Please advise.

Environment

Windows Server 2008 R2 = Netbackup Master Server 7.5.0.5

Windows Server 2008 R2 = Netbackup Media Server 7.5.0.5

The total slots is probably the total slots available in the library, not, the slots assigned to each partition.

That said, you haven't confirmed yet if ALMS is enabled - if I remember correctly if this is turned on, even if you only have one partition, youu have to then assign slots to it.

As mentioned before, if ALMS is turned off, and you have the correct license, I can only think it could be a library fault as with ALMS off, I think all the slots should be automatically assigned to the library.

The other possibility is that with ALMS turned on, you have a lot of slots configured as virtual I/O - these will not be available as regular slots as they are effectivly an extension of the CAP.

The total slot of the tape library are 700 plus but when we do inventory we can only see 261 slot and 1 media tape but we already put 104 media tape on the tape library.

In that case engage IBM support. NetBackup can only see what the hardware presents to it.

Use robtest to see what the robot sees and presents to NBU:

s s

will show all slots.

As soon as robtest displays all slots that you expect to see, NBU inventory will work.

The 3500 series libraries are good at hiding tapes from NBU. Firstly, it is a library issue, I'm certain of that. If robtest s s only shows media in one slot, or, possibly only shows one slot in total, this will confirm my thoughts. Possible causes are multiple, but I think most if not all of these will only happen if ALMS is turned on ? (So if ALMS is not turned on, I'll have to think again ...) The logical library has not been assigned any slots wthin the library config Tapes have not been assigned to a logical library within the library config Virtual I/O slots are enabled, and the tapes are hiding in there Make sure the 'Queued Export' setting is set to 'hide' Hopefully one or more or this will resolve the issue. We only see 261 slot but the total of the slot are 700 plus.

This is what the robot is presenting to NBU.

You need to check the robot config. Probably partitioned with only these slots assigned/configured?

Nothing can be done from NBU point of view to fix this.

If you are using ALMS, you have to add the number of slots you want to the logical library, if this is not done correctly, robtest will show fewer slots than there actually are.

If ALMS is NOT enabled then you should see all the slots, and there will only be 'one' library - if this does not show the correct number of slots I can only think it could be a license issue (I think the number of slots available is licensed on the 3584) or a library fault.
