Oracle Intelligent Policy - logs

Hi,

I've got a question about Oracle Intelligent Policy. This new feature of NBU looks nice but I'm not an expert in NBU area and I was not able to find two things in Oracle Intelligent Policy.

Is there any log files on the media server side from running Oracle Intelligent Policy?

Can Oracle administrator run some command/script from media server side to run manual execute of Oracle Intelligent Policy?

Regards

Jakub

  • RMAN input and output can be found on the Oracle client, see this blog.

    http://www.mass.dk/netbackup/quick-hints/101-rman-input-a-output-using-intelligent-polices-in-netbackup-76.html

There are no OIP related logs on the media server.

The Oracle DBA can't initiate a OIP backup - this is a major drawback and something I have reported to product management. if a DBA need to run a Oracle database backup you need the classic "script" or "template" based approach. Both alternatives are documented in the Netbackup Oracle administrative guide

  • Thanks.
Provided solution was almost good. Created folder should also have chmod 777.
To bad that OIP have so many disadvantages. I also find note that says that it is not recommended to use OIP with Oracle RAC. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH225987

    Too bad.

  • I agree not to mention Data Guard.

I hope to see a OIP "release 2" where those issues are addressed.

I have at least mailed the NBU OIP product manger with my views
