Oracle RAC backup
Hi,
I'm Oracle DBA which tries to prepare policies and scripts for NBU (7.6) to backup 2 node Oracle RAC databases. In documentation http://spaldam.com/NetBackup7xPDFs/NetBackup_AdminGuide_Oracle.pdf in Appendix B I find nice description for different scenarios in that matter. But unfortunatly I don't understand few things and I want to ask for some clarification for "The NetBackup master server configuration must allow the physical host names access to all of the backup images" (page 204)
My master server is on Windows and in "C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\db" there is no "altnames" folder. Should I create that folder and create inside file "hostname1" ... eg. "dbserver1"?
I know difference between hostname, and vipname in Oracle RAC, but I don't understand what Veritas has in mind by "failover_vipname". Can anyone clarify for me what is "failover_vipname" (Is this SCAN)? What address should I put in my dbserver1 file?
Which client (or clients) should I add in my policy definition?
Regards
altnames folder plus files underneath the folder must be created manually.
More information about this directory and files can be found under this topic in the same manual:
Redirecting a restore to a different clientclient_name is the name of the client from where the restore will be attempted.
The hostname inside the file is the hostname of Client for which backups were taken (the name in Clients tab of the Oracle policy).failover_vipname is the same as vipname. This is the Virtual hostname associated with the Oracle Instance.
