Retention override.

Hello guys,

So, in NB 7.5.0.7 we can have the Volume Pool set-up on the Policy or on the SLP(in the schdule).

Which override which?

Thank You

  • If the policy attributes tab does not have a SLP selected then it wili use which every pool is selected

Your screen shots imply that the policy uses a storage unit and volume pool (SAB_NAS_1year)  - this will be applied to the differential schedule shown in your second screen shot

In that second screen shot it implies that the Full backup overrides the one on the attributes tab and uses a SLP named NAS_3months -  so that one will use which pool is defined in the SLP

More details would be shown from:

    bppllist policyname -U

    and

    nbstl NAS_3months -L

  • Hello George

Your question is not descriptive enough but i would still try to answer it.

In policy if u select ""No data classification" then u can select storage unit (of course tape based) then volume pool.

If u select a data classification which are by default in Netbackup then u have to create n chose SLP(based on it volume pool would be used). Volume pool option in policy automatically grade out. hence u cannot chose it.

  • In a policy on the attributes tab you will find if you select a SLP the volume pool is greyed out and therefore the SLP determines it all (though when looking at the Summary of all policies you can still see the selected one!)

The same goes for schedules if you override anything

    Hope this helps

  • Which Volume Pool option override the other:

The Storage selection from a Schedule (whici in this case is a SLP and it has on the 2nd step a Volume Pool set-up) (storage2.jpg)

    or

The Volume Pool from the Policy that contains the Schedule with the SLP. (Storage1.jpg)

  • Ok, so a SLP setted-up within a policy`s schedule will override the policy volume pool!

    ok, Thank You

  • Yes indeed - any part set to use a SLP will use the volume pool defined in that SLP

Looking at your policy, volume pool and SLP names it does imply that the Full will be kept for 3 months and the differential for 1 month - even though the volume pool the differential goes to is named 1 year - is that what you expect?

  • Yes, it`s mestup! the full must be kept 3 months, and we doo not use mixt retention.
