Tape ejects and load

Hi,

 

How to perform tape ejects and loads in netbackup 7.5 and 7.6 on both GUI and Unix/Linux platform

    Do you want to eject from the robot?
    Do you have a robot with a cap/mailslot?
    If yes:

    To eject, simply select tapes to be ejected in the Media GUI.
    Right-click, eject.
      Wait for the next pop up.
      Click “Yes” to continue.
     When "Remove ejected media...." message is displayed, you can go to the Library and remove the tapes from the mailslot/cap.
    Only reply “Yes” once you have removed the tapes from the cap.

     

    To insert media, go to the Library and open the cap/mailslot.
      Insert all the tapes into the slots and close the door.
      Right click on “Media” in Netbackup Administrator Console and select “Inventory Robot”

    When the screen opens, Check that the library are the appropriate one to inventory..
      Click the radio button “Update Volume Configuration”.
      Check the box for “Empty media Access port prior to update”.
      Click Start.

    It is a 'door' on the front of the robot used as media access port (MAP).
    Another name is Cartridge Access Port (CAP). 
    This 'door' is so that opening the robot door is not necessary. This 'door' has a couple of slots that can be used to eject and inject tapes.

    You can look for vendor documentation for your make/model robot to find out if your robot has such capability.

    You can also use 'mode' in robtest to see if your robot has a mailslot/CAP/MAP.

    You can't see the CAP in NetBackup.  You can right-click on a tape in the NetBackup GUI and then select "Eject" from the list.  NetBackup tells the robot to locate that tape and place it in the CAP.  NetBackup doesn't see the CAP, just the robot does.

    The only place close to NBU where you can 'see ' the cap is with robtest -> mode. But even here the info is coming directly from the robot, not NBU.

    s p command in robtest displays the slots in the CAP and what is in them.  As Marianne says, everything in robtest is sent from the library, NBU is told what is there, it doesn't 'see' anything.

    Have you actually tried to find make/model for your tape library to look for documentation? (You can see how easy it was for me to Google for StorageTek info). Or simply walk up to the robot to see what front panel looks like? Or request robot info with 'robtest -> mode'? Or 'scan -changer' ? You will agree that your 'eject and load' question was answered, right?
