Tape media server not active

Hi,

I came across a problem wherein the tape media server seems not be active.  The detailed log section has the below mentioned details:

07/21/2012 08:22:30 - requesting resource hqsf5153c_TLD4
07/21/2012 08:22:30 - requesting resource hqub5500.NBU_CLIENT.MAXJOBS.hqsf5153c
07/21/2012 08:22:30 - requesting resource hqub5500.NBU_POLICY.MAXJOBS.NT-Misc-hqsf5153c-altsite1
07/21/2012 08:22:32 - granted resource  hqub5500.NBU_CLIENT.MAXJOBS.hqsf5153c
07/21/2012 08:22:32 - granted resource  hqub5500.NBU_POLICY.MAXJOBS.NT-Misc-hqsf5153c-altsite1
07/21/2012 08:22:32 - granted resource  HS0395
07/21/2012 08:22:32 - granted resource  TLD4_Drive6
07/21/2012 08:22:32 - granted resource  hqsf5153c_TLD4
07/21/2012 08:22:40 - estimated 277964197 kbytes needed
07/21/2012 08:23:11 - started process bpbrm (pid=1152)
network connection broken (40)

However, the backup is in queued state with the message in the State Details column as "Tape Media Server is not Active".

When I had checked the status of the media server, it is showing to be active for Disk.  How do I make the media server active for both the disk and the tape.

Thanks in advance for any help for resolving this issue.

Regards,

Jecintha

  • What is the version of NetBackup and the Operating System you are running?

Most often, the media server being active for Disk and not Tape is due to a licensing issue.  First, check your licenses and make sure that it's licensed to be a media server for Tape, as well as Shared Storage Option.  If it isn't, contact licensing support.  If it is, try restarting the Device Manager service (from the Admin console, -> "Media and Device Management" -> Devices -> Media Servers), disabling and re-enabling the media server, and check that your vmd process on the media server is running.

For reference: the following processes are running on my 7.1.0.2 deduplication media server:

  • Thanks Andy,

Restarting the device manager services and that actually helped resolve the issue.  We were facing the same problem in few more server and this resolution actually helped.

    Thanks again :).
