Upgrade Media Server 6.5.6 - Win2K3 to new hardware / version 7.5.6 - Win2k8 R2

Hello fellow Netbackup users,

I was looking to accomplish the following:

We have an old media server running Win2k3 / 6.5.6 which we would like to upgrade....

We would like to move this setup/config to a new server running Wink28 R2 / 7.5.6, keeping the same server name/IP

Is there any steps, documentation with regards how to accomplish this?

Thank you

Stef

  • in that case you can directly install it to 7.5 on Media server using same hostname and ip address but plz do make sure that old media server should be powered off/disconnected from network and all the tape drives shd be zoned new media server and if you have OST verify the communciation with OS devices.

Install netbackup and reconfigure tape devices accordingly.

Alternatively:(with diff ip adress/diff host name)

Add this as a new media server and if everything works fine you can follow the media server decom process for old server

  •   Media server OS upgrade will be easy piece if it is 32 bit to 64 bit conversion it is advisable to follow below steps:https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/need-upgrade-os-netbackup-media-server

    Step A:

Take Media server backup and disable all policies which belongs to that Media server and delete all devices for media server and disable media server in GUI.

After new server has been installed with same hostname, disable UAC and Windows firewall.
    Install & patch NBU(6.5.6)

It should be same version . Use same license keys as before.

Ensure devices can be see in OS Device Manager. Download and install vendor drivers for tape drives.
Confirm forward & reverse name lookup between master and media server.
Re-activate media server and test connectivity with commands such as:
    nbemmcmd -listhosts -verbose
    nbemmcmd -getemmserver
Run Device Config wizard, select robot control host and media server.
STU config should be the same as before. Run backup to test.

    Step B:

Upgrade it to 7.5 and check the below upgrade portal

  • Thank you Sri Vani

Just so we are on the same page

My master server is already 7.5

Can i not just simply install 7.5 on the new media server ( keeping the same name / IP )

    Thank you
