vmware - flashbackup (2 - mapped fullVM) v6.5.1 fails (ERR - Unable to read metadata for index)

We are trying to evaluate netbackup v6.5.1 for use with vmware/vcb.  We can get netbackup to interface with vmware/vcb, snapshots are taken, full vm image is dumped on the proxy server. But then when netbackup i assume if doing the mapping of the vm it fails with the errors below. We tried this on two different small vm's.
Seems like netbackup starts to map the backup and then just fails, finished but never really backup anything.
We are also seeing the second error

    The second error we are seeing in the event log is:
     
    The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( VxMS NTFS Mapping Plug-in ) cannot be found.

    Hi Guys, I facing almost the same problem. On my case the backup starts but due this error I'm getting error 13 - Cannot read from socket.

    Any ideas?

    Are you also at 6.5.1?

     

    If so, how much convincing would it take to get you to try 6.5.3 or 6.5.3.1?

    What are you seeing in the bpfis and bpbkar logs on the proxy server?  If you do not have logging directories created, create them:

    C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Netbackup\logs\bpbkar

    C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Netbackup\logs\bpfis

    Have you manually tried to run a VCBMounter.exe command for that host from the proxy server?

    some of our VMs were failing with the repeated error "Unable to read next index. VFM error = 6".

    The bpbkar logs on the proxy server showed errors similar to those mentioned in http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/311422.htm and the registry fix from that article fixed the problem.

    Not exactly the same problem but might be worth a try!

    Nicky,

    if you are getting the errors for all indexes. you can try the work around to set the registry  as mentioned in the TechNote. are you at 6.5.1?
    let us know, if you are getting any error in Application event logs at the time of backup. It should be on your proxy for VxMS application.
    you can drop me PM as well, with the information like.
    your NBU version, Error in event viewer, and bpbkar erros Also what type of vcb backup you are doing (type 1, 2  or 3)

    i suggest you to upgrade to 6.5.3, since almost 100% problems with VCB and Netbackup were addressed in 6.5.3, i have using it successfully; as i faced similar issues in 6.5.1

    Yes Sri, you are right. We fixed a number of VCB isues in  NBU 6.5.3 including the one mentioned above. but this not the end of the world. Watch out for 6.5.4 FA/GA and you will be surprised to see more and more features pouring in. Happy Virtulized world :)
