Backing up a remote server

Hello,

It seems that Daffy is a remote server which you are trying to backup from the Backup exec server. In this case, ensure the following:

1. The remote agent license should be installed on the backup exec server
2. The remote agent should be either push installed or locally installed on the remote server. Refer to the following procedure in order to accomplish this:

3. After installing the remote agent, look for the service 'Backup Exec agent for remote servers' on the remote server. This service should use the Local system account and should have the start up set to automatic.

You can then backup the server/servers from remote selections.
We also suggest you to upgrade to the latest release for 10.0 i.e 5520. Refer to the link below in order to get the install files:

NOTE: you will have to reinstall the remote agent on all remote servers after the upgrade.

Thanks for your help. As I mentioned in my previous post, I've already installed and configured the remote agent on daffy, and it is working just fine. My question is really more about whether there was a different method of backing up remote computers for which you want to store the entire image. It seems odd to me that in order to do this, that the Bugs image has to be copied to Daffy's hard drive before being stored on the tape. Is this the correct sequence for this backup scenario?

What makes you think the Bugs image has to be copied to Daffy's hard drive before being stored on the tape ?

You should be able to backup directly to a tape drive attached to Daffy. Just make sure that the job that backs up Daffy it pointed to the drive/Library and not to a B2D folder.Message was edited by:

I tried to include Daffy in the selection list for the job, but when I expand "Remote Selections">"Microsoft Windows Network">"My Doamin," it doesn't show any other computers. I would figure this would be the correct method, but for some reason I'm not able to configure it in this manner.

I can back it up through the remote agent, but I don't believe this is the correct manner for doing so.

When you say you can backup the daffy server through the remote agent, do you mean you are backing it up from the user defined selections?
When you go to the tab, backup-remote selections-microsoft windows network, are you able to see the remote servers there? They should be backed up from here and they will appear in the list of the remote agent is installed on them and the Remote agent service is running.

Thanks for your help, and yes, the problem is that when I try to configure the selection list to contain remote computers (via ms windows network>my domain), there are no computers listed. I looked at the references you provided. The first one was for the exact issue I was having. As per the instructions, I changed the settings on daffy to enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Hopeful, I went back to bugs to try and find daffy under Remote Selections, but it still seems that it is unavailable. Any further suggestions?

Have you installed the RAWS serial on the media server?
is the RemoteAgent service running on the remote server?
