Preformance

I am running BE 11d with all updates according to LiveUpate, with a Ultrium-TD2 LTO Tape drive on Firmware 53y2.

The backup rate seems to be pretty slow, ~250mb per minute. It is backing up a local Raid5 volume, nothing else. I do have the AOFO installed.

How can i begin to tweak performance? What rate should i be around?

  • I suggest you to take a loot at the best blocking size and buffer for your tape drive(Device->Properties in the Tape Driver->Configuration tab).

There's a lot of technotes from IBM about LTO2 performance sizing... Take a loot at then.

Eg. I have an LTO3 with 512K buffer size, at 2gb/min. At the default config(64k), I have 300mb/min...

Also ensure that the tape and disks are not in the same SCSI controler! ;)
  • Thanks for the reply. I will try and find those articles.
