Slow Duplicates from one library to another

Hello,

We currently run duplicates from an LTO3 fibre library to an LTO1 SCSI library. The transfer rate is in the 200-400 MB/min range, though backups straight to the LTO1 will run 800-1200 MB/min.

What could be causing the slow rate?

Thanks

  • BTW, both libraries are hooked to the same Backup Exec server running 2003 Standard.

    Thanks
  • Make sure that "Single Block Read" is not enabled on the LTO3 (neither single block options hsould be selected)
  • It looks like none of the drives have "read" options selected, but all have the "write" options checked.

I believe these are the defaults.
  • I disabled the "write" options on all drives and the duplicate job rate decreased to the 30-40 MB/min range.
  • I tried again and let it run for a while. The job speeds up after about 10 minutes and reached up to 800 MB/min. and has been gradually slowing down. Currently, it is at 713 MB/min.

Any other suggestions for things to check?

    Thanks for your help.
  • Overnight, the job has slowed to 330 MB/min, which seems typical. Large duplicates (500GB-1500GB) generally start out at a decent rate and slow to a crawl.
