Upgrade from 11d to 2010

Hello,

I hope this is an easy question... It seems like there could be a lot of answers to this...  We currently run BackupExec 11d on Server 2003.  We are in the process of upgrading our servers to server 2008. At this point since there we are two versions behind would it be recommended to just wipe the server and start from scratch with 2008 and BE 2010 or upgrade BE 11d to 2010 and then upgrade to server 2008?

I just wanted to get other people thoughts or personal experiences with this...

Thank you all for your help!
Ryan

  • Hello,

Are you performing an inplace upgrade from 2003 to 2008, from 32-bit to 64-bit?

    Inplace upgrade:
    1  : Upgrade BE11d to 12.5 and then to BE2010
    2  : Upgrade W2003 to W2008

New Server upgrade: (With Same Name)
    1  : On W2003 Server upgrade BE11d to 12.5 and to 2010
    2  : On W2008 install BE2010 and migrate BE Databases from W2003 to W2008.

    Let me know the details...
  • We, too, are getting ready to upgrade from BE11d to BE2010.  However, we are on W2003 server and will continue with that OS for a while.

Why did Dev T recommend a multi-step upgrade of BE (11d to 12.5 to 2010)?  Was that because they were also going to W2008?  What about us . . . can we just go directly from 11d to 2010?

    Thank you!
    Susan

    yes

Again, Yes.  Symantec does support a v11d to BE 2010 (v13) upgrade
