backup Exec showing tape in the drive, when drive is empty

Hello All.

 

The backup exec is showing that there is a tape in the drive, when there isn't actually one!

We have checked the logs of the server aswell as Backup Exec, The Services for backup exec have been stopped/started and restarted.

Regardless of what we do, its still saying there is a tape in the library.

The library in use is a Scalar 100.

 

After doing anything to the backup exec services, it sticks on "Discovering Devices" Phase... Backup exec shows that the actual library is offline (when it isn't) so we're assuming its a communication Error... But this problem has only just arised, It was working fine when we shut up for the weekend.

Any ideas/recommendations?

    1) Disable & Delete the library from the BE console.

    2) Power down library

    3) Power down BE server

    4) Switch ON library, let it get initialized 

    5) Switch ON BE server

    6) Open BE console and verify status of the library and drive.

    Hi Please ensure backup exec 2012 is fully patched up with sp1a and latest ddi. If you have not installed latest ddi yet please install it from below link http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH189571 Also once you do that unistall and reinstall tape drive using tapeinst and then do power cycle by powering off library and then media server and then power on library wait for it to intialize and then power on media server http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH17931 Thanks.

    Do you see any hardware related events(Event ID 7.9.11.13)  in the Windows Event Viewer

    There isnt any hardware related issues in Event viewer.

     

    Backup exec is showing the tape inserted and active.

    There is no current jobs and all tapes are accounted for, and by sight there is nothing in the drive what so ever. We have power cycled everything accept from the Media Server, but that is going to be done as a last resort.

    So you haven't power cycle the Media server, give a try but do follow the steps mentioned in my

    Hi Power cycle always is very basic and good step in this kind of issues. As when you power off , both the devices which is library and media server and when you perform the steps as mentioned above it should bring back the sync. Hopefuly that helps. Regards
