Array Migration using VxVM on Solaris VCS cluster
Hi, We lost our Unix admin a few months ago who usually administered VxVM for us and now I'm in a position where I need to migrate volumes between arrays. Unfortunately no documentation of how this was successfully achived in the past was taken so I'm looking for some help. I've seen a number of posts that relate to this but am posting a series of questions again as I'm new to veritas. The cluster is: - Solaris 9 - VCS 5.0 and VxVM 5.0 MP1 two node straetched cluster - Each node has its own storage array and zoning to the EVA and DMX in each data centre - Qlogic HBAs and Native Sun Driver - Current Array: HP EVA - Target Array: EMC DMX - Current SAN: Brocade (HP-badged) - Target SAN: Brocade Migration Plan (with loads of questions) is: - EMC PowerPath has been installed for multipathing on DMX a few weeks back - Freeze cluster in main data centre - this node to be used for migration - Take first channel out of the current SAN fabric1 and plug it into new SAN fabric 1 in main data centre on active, frozen node. - Leave both channels from standby node in 2nd data centre in EVA fabrics for now - Zone and Mask target LUNs from data cetnre 1 and 2 on single HBA in SAN fabric 1. - Discover LUNs (cfgadm) - DMX storage managed by PowerPath so list devices using powermt display dev=all to map devices to actual array/LUN - Initialise disk in VxVM (vxdisksetup -i emcpower56) - repeat for all new LUNs - Add DMX LUNs to disk groups (vxdg -g testdg adddisk testdgdmx=emcpower56) - repeat for all new LUNs - Add plexes and mirror (vxassist -g testdg mirror testvol emcpower56) The existing volumes have two plexes, one from each data centre each with one sub disk. Will vxassist automatically create the plex, attach it to the volume and start mirroring? Am I ok to repeat this command twice with different objects to get both new mirrors sync'ing at the same time? - check two new plex attached to testvol (vxprint -qthg testdg testvol) - check sync state compleeted (vxtask list) - Disassocaite EVA plex when sync state completed (vxmend -g testdg off testvol-01; vxplex -g testdg dis testvol-01) - Delete EVA plex (vxedit -g testdg -rf rm testvol-01) - Unmask EVA storage and cleanup using cfgadm on both nodes - Take second channel from active node and plug to SAN fabric 2 - rescan using qlogic driver to pick up second leg to lun - verify with powermt display dev=all - cable 2nd node in second data centre to both new fabrics and scan using qlogic driver - check 2nd node using powermt display dev=all Can the VEA GUI be used to carry out the same as the above commands that I've researched? Hi People, I got Symantec Enterprise v 8.0 SP4 as a VM which uses Physical RDM capability to leverage EMC SnapView replication from production site to DR site LUN level, however I wonder if this is the correct procedure since I cannot find any way to to create DR instance of EV that can be used in the disaster recovery scenario ? What are my options and how to achieve that in case the primary site is down completely in terms of Server and the storage ?Solved1.8KViews3likes9CommentsHow to manage the Enterprise Vault data content when it grows big and you are running out of disk space ?
Hi People, Can anyone suggest to me what is the best way to manage and sustain the Enterprise Vault data that grow bigger and larger every month ? My situation is that whenever my Exchange Server 2007 database drive is running low of disk space, I'd go to lower down the EV archive items from 6 months into 5 months and now down to 3 months just to create some room to breathe in the Exchange Server mailbox. I understand that this is not resolving the problem in the best way as it should since we just shifting away the disk space usage from Exchange into the Enterprise Vault. However what are my options to manage and sustain the growing data in the EV ? Can i offload to tape for the Vault data disk and then deleting it manually, what happens with the indexing and search when the data is archived to tape and I want to retrieve it later for some reason ? Any kind of assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.Solved2.3KViews3likes12CommentsSymantec Enterprise Vault Archive Vault backup & Virus Scanning best practice

Can anyone please shed some light in this matter. ThanksSolved2.3KViews3likes12CommentsBE 2012 VMware agent backup directly to tape.
Hi, I have ESXi VSphare 5 (three server). Alll the VM were in the EMC VNX storage server. VCenter server. I have VMware agent (Three) , one windows agent and tape library option (for extra Drive). We were planning to take VM backup directly to tape. As I have seen the "Best Practrice" for VMWare agent backup where its states that the backup to take on the disk rather to tape. Here is the link:- http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO74443 So , If I take backup directly to tape what could be the issue. Any Ideas. Hi all, I am atempting to do a backup an NFS share on the EMC Celerra. I have created NDMP user on the Celerra and tested to ensure that it was working fine by ftp'ing from the Control Station to the data mover. When I attempt to setup New NDMP host on the Netbackup application using the ndmp credientials that I had just created I get the following error. 'Validation of the Credientials failed. Either the media servers could not be reached or the credientials are invalid. Valid credientials are required for backups to succeed.' Communication between the Celerra and the netbackup server goes over the secondary interface on the netbackup server. I have performed a snoop on the netbackup server and I can see communication between both but not much more info but I have it attached here. Hi, The issue on hand is, that, as the title says, i cannot restore NDMP Backups to a EMC VNX 5500. I do not get an error Message, the Job simply hangs after loading the Media. I also cannot cancel such a job, if i try, the job hangs with the status "Cancel Pending". The only way to recoverfrom this hanging jobis to restart the Backup Exec services, and sometimes i even have to eject the tape from the drive manually. Sometimes a job completes successful, but nothing is restored. When i check the Job Log of such a job i see the following errormessage: V-79-8192-4881 - The count of Files and Directories processed is not available for this operation. The File and Directory count might be displayed as zero. All Backups from the VNX5500 are working fine. We also still have an old EMC Cellerra, and if i set that system as a target for redirection, i can restore files that have been backed up from the VNX 5500. When i try to restore files that have been backed up from the celerra to the VNX 5500, i get the same error V-79-8192-4881 as above, and nothing is restored. My Backup Exec Version is 2010 R2, fully patched. The VNX 5500 is conntected via Fibrechannel to the Media Server. The File Software Version of the system is 7.1.47-5 The old Celerra is connected via LAN. If you need additional Infomation, i will gladly provide it.927Views1like4Commentsrestoring from B2D on Datadomain
Hello, I am running a backup from Backup Exec 12.5 to a CIFS share on a DataDomain dd630. The backup seems to work fine, but when I attempt to restore files from the backup, the restore job just runs and runs, with Current Operation going back and forth between Loading Media and Queued, until I cancel the job. Byte count remains at 0, and there is no error code returned. These aren't especially big files, and I'm redirecting them to restore onto local storage on teh backup serer. I've let one of these attempts run for more than 2 days with no progress and no error. Am I missing something? Trying to connect via creation of a disk device. When clicking "Add OpenStorage" device in Backup Exec disk devices (Backup Exec 2010 R3 SP2), I am able to get to the point as follows in the attachment. I can get all fields to work, it sees it as a "Data Domain" in the selection box, but on the LSU, it doesn't populate. Login credentials are definitely right. The OST 2.5 plugin for datadomain is installed on the media server. If I manually type in LSU1, or any free text in the Logical Storage Unit field, it doesn't make any difference. The error that I get when I click OK says: "Cannot connect to the NDMP server, or to the remote computer that is configured as a Remote Media Agent, or to the remote computer that is configured for deduplication" I do not have the DD Boost license enabled, I have one MTree. I was told and confirmed that I do not need the DD Boost option to create an OST device against a straight data domain. I am on 5.0.1 OS on the DD 580.3.6KViews1like8Comments
