Vaulted emails and delegations
Hi. We have users who receive delegation to other users emails. Our domain policy is vaulting the emails after 90 days. When the user goes into the vaulted emails that have been vaulted under someone else's username, they are not able to download the attachments. It seems like the text is viewable, but not the attachments - which is a big deal because a lot of what we do is being emailed to us in either pdf or jpg format. We are using Ent Vault v10.2. Even when the user is given the permissions on the exchange server for delegation AND permission to open the vaulted item, they still cannot get the attachment. Has anyone else seen this before? Any help would be greatly appreciated!Solved710Views0likes1CommentProblems with centera, temporary archive to NTFS
Hi experts, i would like your opinion about my problem and temporary solution. We have some major problems with centera in our organization, one cantera completely failed, and now the storage guys are trying to replicate all content from valid one to the fixed one. Because of all the replication, everything that is connected to the centera is extremely slow, especially if EV archiveing is running. So for now archiving is disabled. What we would like to do now, is to add an NTFS partition to the vault store, so that archiving can run normally, and when centera recovers we would like to migrate the data from NTFS to Centera, if this is posible. Has anyone dealt with similar situation, and am i on the right track? Thanks in advance.Solved754Views0likes4CommentsEV 10.0.1 - with EMC2 Centerra / Manual archiving don't work or hangs
Hello Forum-Members, 1, Overview about our enviroment: -Enterprise Vault Server Version 10.0.1 with one EV-Site and 4 EV-Servers -4 Vault Stores on 4 EV-Servers running on virtual VMware hosts with Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1 (4 vCores / 16GB vRAM) -Storage: EMC² Centerra Storage with active C-Clips -Exchange Enviroment: 8 Mailbox Servers running on Windows Server 2003 SP2 Clusters with Exchange 2003 SP3 -Outlook 2003 (11.8325.8324) or Outlook 2010 (14.0.0.6117) on Client Side with EV Client 10.0.0.1316 2, Problemdescription: The old 2 phyhical EV-Servers which hosted the EV-Site in the past were changed to 4 virtual EV-Servers -We enabled the Centerra Collection (C-Clip) - (was not active in the old enviroment) -Also we enabled in the "Vault Store Properties" General tab "Remove safty copies:" from the old setting "Immediately after archiving" to "After Backup". These were the main changes during the migration. Now we have the problem that manual archiving don't work like before. It's a very strange behavior because -sometimes the manual archiving works fine and fast (aprox. under 1 minute till the pending state disappeared to archived state), -sometimes the pending state of an item takes hours till it is archived and -sometimes it will spend in the pending 3, Tested workarounds: (negative results) - changed the setting at "Vault Store Properties" General tab "Remove safty copies:" back to "Immediately after archiving" - Deleting the Vault Cache on Client side and made an initial synchronize - ResetEVClient.exe If you need any Logs we can provide it in this thread. Thxs in advance! BenediktSolved954Views1like3CommentsEnterprise Vault 8 High Availability best practice ?
Hi People, I got Symantec Enterprise v 8.0 SP4 as a VM which uses Physical RDM capability to leverage EMC SnapView replication from production site to DR site LUN level, however I wonder if this is the correct procedure since I cannot find any way to to create DR instance of EV that can be used in the disaster recovery scenario ? What are my options and how to achieve that in case the primary site is down completely in terms of Server and the storage ?Solved1.8KViews3likes9CommentsEnterprise Vault backup best practice document ?
Hi People, Can you please share me the Enterprise Vault 8 backup best practice ? I'm not sure which file to delete / purge after the successful backup with EMC Avamar backup software because the disk space is running very low and I cannot add more hard drive into the EV server due to the Storag array got no more disk to attach.Solved658Views1like2CommentsSymantec Enterprise Vault Archive Vault backup & Virus Scanning best practice
People, I'd like to know if it is best practice to do the following: 1. install Antivirus (Symantec End Point Protection), if yes then how to exclude certain things or not recommended at all ? 2. How do you guys backup to tape the Enterprise Vault archive to reuse the disk space so that the Vault is not keeps growing ? my Backup software is EMC Avamar and Networker (to write to tape). Can anyone please shed some light in this matter. ThanksSolved2.3KViews3likes12CommentsHow to manage the Enterprise Vault data content when it grows big and you are running out of disk space ?
Hi People, Can anyone suggest to me what is the best way to manage and sustain the Enterprise Vault data that grow bigger and larger every month ? My situation is that whenever my Exchange Server 2007 database drive is running low of disk space, I'd go to lower down the EV archive items from 6 months into 5 months and now down to 3 months just to create some room to breathe in the Exchange Server mailbox. I understand that this is not resolving the problem in the best way as it should since we just shifting away the disk space usage from Exchange into the Enterprise Vault. However what are my options to manage and sustain the growing data in the EV ? Can i offload to tape for the Vault data disk and then deleting it manually, what happens with the indexing and search when the data is archived to tape and I want to retrieve it later for some reason ? Any kind of assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.Solved2.3KViews3likes12CommentsHuge amount on Items awaiting backup & Centera (replicated and non-replicated)
Hi, I detected a huge amount of items awaiting backup in an installation with a stand-alone Centera (9,000,000+ items) and have been working on the VS databases to get rid of the savesets waiting for replication, but the items awaiting backup start growing again as expected (as new emails are bieng archived to Centera). I checked in other two EV installations with Centera (one of them is being replicated indeed) and found the same thing. Every technote I´ve found about this behavior except one points to the fact that the replication queue at Centera is not being emptied (items are not being replicated successfully) but in one of the stand-alone Centera scenarios the EMC administrator claims there´s no such thing as a a replication queue in a Centera that is not being replicated. I found this technote about permissions on the default Centera pool when using a PEA file to access a dedicates pool which is our case and I´ll try to apply it and see what happens: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH65247 Obviously I´m not a Centera expert. Any idea? Thanks! Jose LuisSolved1.8KViews0likes8CommentsMigrating placeholders from NTFS to Celerra
Greetings All, I need to migrate placeholders from a Windows file server to a Celerra file server. Both file servers will need to remain in production during the entire migration. The following syntax will be used with FSAUtility to migrate the placeholders. FSAUtility -pm -s \\Share\FSA -d \\Celerra\FSA After the placeholder migration, I would like to decomission the Windows box and rename the Celerra to the NETBIOS name of the Windows box. Has anyone tried this before? Will simply changing the DnsName and UncName within the FileServerEntry table achieve the desired results?Solved1.2KViews0likes8CommentsEnterprise Vault 7.5SP2 Centera to Centera Migration?
We are using EV2007 SP2, with an EMC Centera backend, also using collections. Due to an administrator mishap, several thousand ClipIDs were lost. EMC has been working feverishly to get the IDs reassociated with the data on the Centera. In the mean time, the Vault Stores have been moved to a second Centera and resumed. Mail archiving was unaffected, the only savesets effected were FSA objects. The shortcuts still reside on the file servers. Question is - Once EMC is able to recover any IDs and savesets, what would be the best (and easiest) way to get that data over to the secondary Centera and put in the proper place for the shortcut to work for the user? Currently, we believe this might be our best bet but I wanted to throw it out there and see if anyone had a better idea = Step 1 - Recover the ClipID, and as many savesets as possible Step 2 - Run EVCenteraChecker to unarchive that saveset into a new DVS file Step 3 - Move DVS file to new location and re-associate within database Step 4 - Verify file via EVCenteraChecker or with simple AntiVirus Scan to ensure shortcut pulls file requested.Solved947Views0likes2Comments
