Archived Items are not restored in spite of the DTrace saying that it was successful
Hello, We are using EV 10.0.4 with Exchange 2013. We have Virtual Vault enabled. We have a situation where in the archived items are not being restored. We isolated the fact that the item could have been moved from the original location and hence tried restoring an item from the original location itself. The item would go through the process of retrieval (change of icons) and then turn back to the shortcut itself. Ran a Dtrace in the background (Client Trace as well as on the server), with the Retrieval Task and Storage Restore. The Dtrace suggests that the restore of the item was successful. An excerpt of the Dtrace: 12:53:20.478 [18908](RetrievalTask)<23212>EV:L{CClientIdentity::CheckAccess:#501} [VF-ROOT\KavitaR] is requesting permissions [1] on Vault [17FA68A681E82564C84C1B84C26EC1FC41110000evserver01]. 153312:53:20.478 [18908](RetrievalTask)<23212>EV:L{CReadWriteLock::SetReadLock:#263} [VaultPermCacheLock] WaitForSingleObject on write mutex [0x640] returned [0x0] 153412:53:20.478 [18908](RetrievalTask)<23212>EV:L{CReadWriteLock::SetReadLock:#293} [VaultPermCacheLock] WaitForMultipleObjects on thread mutex [0x644], semaphore [0x634] returned [0x0] 153512:53:20.478 [18908](RetrievalTask)<23212>EV:L{CReadWriteLock::SetReadLock:#306} [VaultPermCacheLock] we are now reading so no writes allowed 153612:53:20.478 [18908](RetrievalTask)<23212>EV:L{CReadWriteLock::ResetReadLock:#190} [VaultPermCacheLock] WaitForSingleObject on [0x644] returned [0x0] 153712:53:20.478 [18908](RetrievalTask)<23212>EV:L{CReadWriteLock::ResetReadLock:#220} [VaultPermCacheLock] Released Semaphore, previous count was [99] 153812:53:20.478 [18908](RetrievalTask)<23212>EV:L{CReadWriteLock::ResetReadLock:#225} [VaultPermCacheLock] we were the last reader so we are now write ready 154012:53:20.478 [18908](RetrievalTask)<23212>EV:LCBaseDirectoryServiceWrapper::CreateDirectoryService() - Entry [m_nNumTries = 40] 154112:53:20.478 [18908](RetrievalTask)<23212>EV:LCBaseDirectoryServiceWrapper::CreateDirectoryService() - Successfully communicated with an EV Directory Service on the local machine 154312:53:20.478 [18908](RetrievalTask)<23212>EV:LCBaseDirectoryServiceWrapper::CreateDirectoryService() - Entry [m_nNumTries = 40] 154412:53:20.478 [18908](RetrievalTask)<23212>EV:LCBaseDirectoryServiceWrapper::CreateDirectoryService() - Successfully communicated with an EV Directory Service on the local machine 154512:53:20.478 [18908](RetrievalTask)<23212>EV:L{CReadWriteLock::SetWriteLock:#369} [VaultPermCacheLock] WaitForSingleObject on write mutex [0x640] returned [0x0] 154612:53:20.478 [18908](RetrievalTask)<23212>EV:L{CReadWriteLock::SetWriteLock:#387} [VaultPermCacheLock] WaitForMultipleObjects on thread mutex [0x644], event [0x610] returned [0x0] 154712:53:20.478 [18908](RetrievalTask)<23212>EV:L{CClientIdentity::CheckAccess(vSIDS)} (Exit) Status: [Success] 154812:53:20.494 [18908](RetrievalTask)<23212>EV:M{CCARestHelper::RetrieveMarkedItems:#290} Calling RestoreItemV35 154912:53:20.494 [18908](RetrievalTask)<23212>EV:M{CRestorationAgent::RestoreItemV35:#393} Restoring Saveset [201509101912387~201508271244170000~Z~C10CC08984ED6A78A5C1B5BB7A2B2181] Transaction [414D8C47DBA4194592AC706E4A11F791] from Vault [17FA68A681E82564C84C1B84C26EC1FC41110000evserver01]. Hi, reading through https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/gentle-approach-storage-expiry before we embark on a reduction on our site policy for expiry of items, and i wondered if there was a way to measure the number of items processed/removed, and load on servers etc whilst running this as a test ? We wish to change storage expiry from 7 years to2 years across 40000 archives, but initially will only target 1000 users and reduce from 7 to 6 years, to ensure we don't kill our infrastructure. Is there a way to monitor the impact of this during the initial 3 hour run, as it will run in production hours (as we don't want it to run at the same time as the overnight archiving tasks). so that we can then consider adding more archives to the new policy and trimming from 6 to 5,4,3, and eventually 2 years. Hi all, I am pretty new to Enterprise Vault and I am learning about it. Currently I have a very big problem in our environment. Indexing is not working. Wehave two servers for indexing. Both are in a Index Server Group. In that, one server has been completely taken out from the environment. The other one is still running. I am not able to delete the server which is taken out from the environment from the administration console. When I delete it, I get the error message The computer contains Services. You need to delete all these Services before you can delete the Computer. When I tried to delete the Services - I get the error message : "Could not determine if the Enterprise Vault Server running on (server name) is part of a cluster. No such host is known. When I tried to delete the task associated with that server I get the error message : "The task cannot be deleted because there are indexing operations associated with this task. I checked completely and I don't see any indexing task associated with that server. Event IDs that I get stating indexing is not working are : 41021, 41008, 41011, 41291, 41259 I searched online, but it doesn't give me a correct path to troubleshoot. My Questions : 1. Should all the servers in the Indexing Server Group should be in working condition ?? 2. If not, the another server is still running, but all the indexing jobs are struck and not moving. Hello Again! I'm looking to get some more information about your experience with the Enterprise Vault collector that creates CAB files, I haven't used it before and I wanted to get some feedback on what you guys have been seeing. Some background information: For better or for worse, we moved our Enterprise Vault(11)environment to a Data Domain (DD2500). We're getting reasonable performance from a recall performance perspective right now, but our backup speeds aren't great at all. (200MB/Minute on average) We're thinking that switching to the CAB files might really help the backup situation, but we're worried about the possible performance penalty for accessing the CAB files down the line. If anybody can throw in their two cents about using CAB files and answer some or all of these questions, that would extremely helpful! 1. Does anybody have any "best practice" guidelines on how large the collection file size should be? I know the default is 10MB, but I want to know if people have had any luck with other values and the tradeoff between backup performance and retrieving archived files. 2. After selecting the "Use collection files" checkbox on a vault store (our vault stores are ~800GB in size), should I worry about the data being unaccessible during the collection process? I'm totally okay with it taking a long time for the collection process to complete, but I want to be sure that the data will be generally accessible during the collection process. If anybody has ballpark figures for how long their collection process took, that would be helpful as well. 3. Did anybody see a dramatic improvement in backup times after switching to a CAB file setup? I've seen some symantec blogs that cite up to 33% improvement, but I'd love to get some additional feedback from others. 4. Has anybody switched to CAB files and noticed any noticeable performance degredation in rehydrating archived files? Thanks in advance for all of your help! Our PST migration policy is set to archive all message classes. I checked the log file after migration and it showed a number of items not elgible for archiving because of PST migration policy setting. All those items are calendar items which are included in the PST policy. However, our regular mailbox policy does not archive calendar items. Does it means regular mailbox policy overrides PST migration policy? Also, we set it to delete PST file after migration. The PST is not being deleted and the migration status stays as completing. Is it because of the non-eligble items? Any way to fix that? Thanks.239Views1like0Commentsexchangembxtype values and meaning
Hi, I am looking to query the ExchangeMailboxEntry Table in SQL and subsequently make a couple of changes as well. While we are not using EV Reports in this environment, I need to depend on direct interaction with SQL. I understand the risks I would be undertaking, but this will be a one time activity. Once I get to install and configure EV Reports or get the desired results from running SQL Queries (Select Statements), I do not have to make direct changes in SQL Hence I need to know what are the different values for exchangembxtype and their meaning?Solved1.7KViews1like6Comments
