Enterprise Vault Retention Settings
Hi everyone, I as of yesterday have been handed responsibility of the Enterprise Vault for my company. I have a little bit of experience with the product, but right just winging it until I full understand it. We of course have no documentation available so I have been reading through Symantec posts here on the forums. I do however have a few questions when it comes to emails being deleted from the vault and the retention period involved. As of today our site's Storage Expiry is set to have emails expire based on the Archived Date. Now that's cool, but I can't find anywhere in the VAC which tells me how many months or years these emails are kept based on the archived date. It could be 6 months from the archived date or it could be 3 years. I don't know and I cannot find anything telling me this in the VAC. I attempted to look up Storage Expiry reports in the event viewer, but could not find the event ID's 7085 or 7086 since we are on EV v10.02.1112. Our email environment is Exchange 2010. On the VAC, when I look at mailboxes in the Archives, I see the Expired Items say "Will be deleted", so I know they are deleting. That being said, does anyone in the community here know where I can in the VAC or otherwise and find how many months or years emails are kept in the vault based on the Archived Date? When I look at the Archive Settings for the site, the retention category has been labeled Business. When I look in Exchange though, I see no retention policy called Business, so my impression is this an Enterprise Vault retention policy. I have found no way to see the date range associated with the this "Business" policy either. Can anyone point me in the right direction?Solved4.1KViews1like7CommentsEV | Powershell | Enable Mailboxes for Archiving | How to?
Hi I would like to automate this procedure using Powershell. Do you have an example of a Powershell script which can be used? When I manually enable the mailboxes for archive all I do is use the "Enable mailboxes for Archiving" > List all available mailboxes > New mailboxes only > selectthe user > go next Vault Store and Retention Category are defaults> next The mailboxe primary account > next Immediatly using the default archivning settings > Finish I will then create a shell so all I need to do is insert the username. Hi everyone, Question for the group. This could be something I'm missing easily, but wanted some clear guidance on dealing with the issue. So I've got users who have access to everyone's vault. When I attempt to remove their access, I am told they cannot be removed as they have "automatically set" permissions associated with it. Now I've read that I can "zap" the permissions. What I want to do is make it so everyone has access to their own vaults and no one elses. I found the EVPM.exe anda folder called EVPMScripts that has a file called GrantVSAAccess.ini in it. [Directory] DirectoryComputerName=Server Name Site Name= Site [ArchivePermissions] ArchiveName = ALL GrantAccess = delete read write,Service Account I'm assuming this is where I need to go access the permissions so not everyone and their mother access to everyone's vaults. Do I need to make a new ini file and run that? How exactly do I zap these permissions and reset everyone to just have their own? Thanks everyone!Solved2.9KViews1like6CommentsOutlook 2010 Vault cache synchronization failed

Hi, We are currently using Enterprise Vault v10.0.2.1112 for Exchange, SharePoint and File Shares (FSA). Due to issues and concerns we are now considering dropping the SharePoint and FSA components and only retaining Exchange (maybe even dropping that). Can anyone advise on/recommend some UK Partners who can assist us, as i'm sure most of our issues/concerns are down to our set-up and not the product itself. The sweetener for any partners will be the potential consultancy if we decide to stay with Enterprise Vault and upgrade to the latest release, and the possibility of procuring and installing additional Enterprise Vault add-ons. Hello, I'm receiving the error "Unable to contact the search API" on Enterprise Vault 11 servers running on Windows Server 2012. I applied the recommended steps fromhttp://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH214690 and apparently fixes it,but every day the problem occurs again. Anybody has other suggestion for this? Hi guys, Does anyone know how to generate a report from SQL which will show how much archived data is accessed? I am most interested in the older data as we do not have any retention policies in place and this would give me some idea for future planning. Hello, I have been requested to restore some emails from ex-employees with a particular phrase match for a court subpoena. These employees mailboxes have been removed from Exchange long ago. Using the Enterprise Vault service account I can successfully perform a search on relevant mail archives and create a basket of relevant archive items. I have enabled the export to PST option from web search. When I attempt to export the basket to PST, the operation fails and I see Event ID 2227 errors in eventlog with description "User '<unavailable>' failed to restore an item into mailbox '<unavailable>'" As the employees mailbox does not exist, I am entering server name and mailbox alias of the Enterprise Vault Service account. Does anyone know if what I'm attempting to do is possible or because the relevant mailbox to the items I'm trying to restore is no longer in existence that this is not possible? My only option being to export the entire archive to PST. Thank you.Solved1.5KViews0likes2CommentsEV 11 Search item selection limit
Hello, I have new installation of EV 11.0.1. I have discovered that I can't select more than 200 items in EV search. One of our admins responsibility is to export some content from archive to PSTand this limit poses an issue. I saw article that talkes about creating WebApp.ini filr with RestoreToPST option in it, but it seems not working in version 11. Also, I know that archives can be exported to PST from VAC, but contents we need to export is way less than the whole user archive, so it's not working werry well. And for this type of exports, EV Discovery Accelerator will be overkill as well. Any one has an answer for me how to increase the selection number?Solved1.5KViews0likes4Comments
