BE 2012 SDR: no restore selections visible
In short: the SDR wizards connects to the (only existing) BE server, the list of clients is also available as drop-down, but the list of available backups sets is empty for every machine. No error message. Environment: W2K3 server, both BE and client. BE version is basic (w/o SP1a); customized SDR (here: 32-Bit: SDR-DVD-1689.2-i386.iso) created OK; SDR-recognized restore selections for a number of clients visible and available in BE GUI. Additional info: the (one-and-only!) BE server is defined as a Central Admin Server. Now my questions: has anybody had that effect already? Is the reason that the version is not correct (but: I didn't find any reference in the SP1a readme or SCL)? The customer is not very willing to update to SP1a... Any help is appreciated.618Views2likes3CommentsDR file in Veritas\B2D folder on RDX backup disk
We're running Backup Exec 2012 Small Business Edition on our SBS2011 server and performing nightly back ups onto RDX disks. As I understand it we need to keep a copy of the .DR file generated during backup in order for SDR to work, however I notice that BE saves a .DR file into E:\Veritas\B2D (where E: is the RDX disk). Is this file suitable for SDR? Does this mean we don't need to worry about making a copy of the .DR file in C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\sdr\Data\ or are the files on C: and on E: for different purposes? I notice that while the .DR file on any given RDX disk (E: drive) is about 6 MB, the .DR file on C: is about 2 MB. Thanks for any clarification you can provide.849Views1like3CommentsBackup Exec - copy mode backup
Hi, I am running Backup Exec 2012 on a windows server. Backups are run every 3 hours using Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 to a NAS. These backups are incremental, therefore relying on the files archive bit to know if it should be included in the next backup or not. Each night Backup Exec is backing up the complete server to tape. Unfortunately the two products Backup Exec and System Recovery do not appear to work nicely together as one will lock files or will be denied access to resources that the other wants. Ideally I would like to do the job using Backup Exec only. The backup to the NAS will be managed by one job. A separate job will do a COPY backup (i.e. not reset the archive bit) to tape each night. As it is one program that is doing the two jobs, if there is a conflict of resources at least it will be aware of the reason for it and will wait rather than fail. Is there a way to achieve what I am requesting? Thanks in advance for your help. Dallas451Views1like1CommentSDR error "Checking for a resource entry for this computer on the backup exec server"
I'm testing de SDR feature of Backup Exec 2012. I have a full Backup of a Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition SP2 32bit I tested to recover files, and works fine. Now I’m trying to recover the full computer and all works fine, until i get the error attached. The error occurs while "Checking for a resource entry for this computer on the backup exec server" The window display the "Cannot find a resource for this computer on the Backup Exec server. Make sure the Remote Agent for Windows Servers service is started". I Restart the Remote Agent on the server, and also restart the server, and the recover procedure several times with no changes. I’m stuck on this. Really appreciate help on this! Thanks in advance.2.4KViews1like14CommentsBackup to Dedupe to Dedupe to Convert Option greyed out
Hope someone can assist I'm attempting to runBE 2012 and a MMS with dedupe storage at both sites, looking to convert the opt replicateddeduped data at the second site to VHD as part of the staging backup definition, unfortunately it is grey out and only gives me the option to automate this at the 1st site as a staged backup to virtual or a parallel backup to virtual option. The option to manually create the virtual PIT is available at the DR secondary site but automating this is not available as above option stage is greyed out. I have tape configured and i can add a stage to tape and this works fine, dedupe to dedupe to tape. I have looked at the CAS being at the primary and the DR site and also looked at the SDR path to ensure both CAS and MMS servers have access. Any thoughts or settings you feel i have missedwould be appreciated. Jules662Views1like1CommentRestoring Files/Folders from Tape Backup
Hi all So, I have a bit of a problem. I accidentally deleted the wrong folder from our work server yesterday (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard), but we have a nightly backup to a tape drive, so I went onto the backup software (Symantec Backup Exec 2012) to restore the data. However, using the restore wizard it has been "Querying for data" for approximately 12 hours... is this normal?? Is it possible to restore files/folders from a tape backup, or would we have to restore the whole system? Do I just need to wait a long time for the system to find the data? I'm a designer with a decent knowledge of IT but Server/Server backups/Tape are all pretty new to me! We have a spare 2Tb NAS drive so I could potentially restore all of the data to this (approximately 600gb), would this be a more viable approach? Thanks in advanceSolved1.9KViews1like2CommentsBackupExec 2010 R3 Encryption Key(s)
We will soon be reinstalling Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3 software due to an OS upgrade to 64bit version. note that this upgrade will be on the exact same server. The server is already 64bit hardware with a 32bit OS. Upgrading OS to 64bit. Here is my primary need: Ineed to make sure where to locate the BackupExec Encryption Keys and how to back them up (Export/Import) or whatever it takes. I also need to know the location forANY configuration files perteninent to the coniguration of BackupExec so I can back them up to be restored on the new server. Is there a PDF document available - or if someone has a minute to provide the details - It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.1.6KViews1like2CommentsIDR restoration of complete site from tape duplicate
I need to work out a scenario for recovering a complete site from the archive tapes The site consists of: Two AD DCs, one holding the DR backup folder. The BE 2010 R3 backup server. Additional servers, Sharepoint, SQL, file shares etc. The backups are made to disk, with the full backups duplicated to LTO tapes. The policy enforced also makes it impossible to login to any server not connected to the AD, including the BE server. Having read other forum questions, I have trouble coming up with a workable solution for restoring the complete site from the tapes. The easiest solution (I thought), would be to hook up the tape drive to the AD DC, restore that one from tape, then restore the BE server from tape, then restore the other servers from network. At this point, I really don't know how to go about the restore, since the IDR disc will not restore from anything but the disk backups, that in this scenario would have burned up together with all other servers (or similar). Is there something I have overlooked? That you cannot point to another backup set location is really a disappointment.Solved783Views1like3CommentsBE System Recovery Disk (Backup Exec 2012)
Hello, we are using the trial version of Backup Exec 2012 to evaluate its benefit. We want to bare metal restore a backup. We need a "system restore cd" (Heard from this source:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0BXT6sqS84). But there isnt an option in the program itself to burn this cd. Some years ago somebody asked the same question, but all links have changed/fileconnect is only accessable through a serial number. (http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/be-system-recovery-disk-iso-download) Where can I download this "System Restore CD" for Backup Exec 2012?1.4KViews1like3CommentsQuestion about SSR and IDR....
Hi guys, I would like to ask if there are any difference between SSR and IDR. What if we want to have a system recovery solutions that can recover a downed system in just short period of time, is the IDR feature of the BE2012 enough to provide what we need?1.2KViews1like8Comments
