I didn’t here anything about a new version or will it be out soon?603Views6likes3CommentsFormer Ghost 15 user - Getting trapped in the SSR 2013 Trial
A few days ago I had an issue with doing a system restore using Ghost 15. I went to that forum for help and learned that Symantec was going to discontinue Ghost and recommended users "check out" SSR 2013 with its free trial. I downloaded the free trial and eventually learned it would not install unless I first remove Ghost. That wasn't from anything that I saw when the SSR installation failed; that happened without any additional information. However, I did eventually find my way to this forum and a helpful Guru pointed out the issue and also that I could always re-install Ghost if I wasn't happy with SSR. I uninstalled Ghost, installed SSR, and started backing stuff up. Now, if one of the things you want to do is a full system restore (my primary interest)then you need a recovery disk. SSR will make a recovery disk for you and all you need to do is provide an activation key which you don't get with the trial version. No problem, as all I need to do is install Ghost. But I can't install Ghost until I uninstall SSR. And SSR WILL NOT UNINSTALL. Whenever I try to uninstall it there's an Error 2738 and something about a VBasic error. So now I have a trial verision of a program that I can't use and a paid for program I can no longer load. I guess it can all be fixed if I pay Symantec for an activation key for a program that I'm not sure I want in the hopes it will maybe allow me to upgrade to a latter version that can uninstall so I can install the program I uninstalled so I could evaluate the Free Trial. To put it another way, I may have to pay Symantec to I can remove their free software and load back the software I paid them for as well. And, even it it turns out there's a simple, and hopefully less expensive, way out of this I've still wasted a lot of time on what should be a free trial of a comercial product which appears to be more of an alpha test. I am trying to create a Linux 5.7 recovery disk and am getting the error message below: # createSRD --iso=/mnt/backup/rhel-server-5.7-source-dvd.iso -d /mnt/backup/customSRD.iso Creating SRD...Please Wait [ ######################## ] 36% Could not get distribution info from media. Please check the media. This would seem to imply a problem with the iso file but I have tried 2 different iso files and get the same error message. Anyone have any ideas on this one? RestoreAnywhere prompt me for new network adapter driver but not for the RAID Controller (perc 710P). When I boot the server windows launch the System Recovery tool. It doesnt see the hardrive untill i click on add driver and select the driver of the raid controller. So now I am on the recovery with windows detected on E: What should I do to install the driver so that the raid controller will be detected on the next server boot ? I tried to use pnputil : e:\windows\system32\pnputil -i -a d:\drivers\perc\oemsetup.inf but it says "Failed to install the driver on any of the devices" Thank youSolved2KViews2likes13CommentsImage OLD Windows 2000 SP4 server and apply to new hardware.
I have started a new project. The Lab has two servers. Both are HP DL380, one a G3, the second a G5. The G3 is running Windows Server 2000 SP4. The G5 is running Windows Server 2003 Standard edition. I have another G5 and two G7's for use. Both servers are domain controllers. Servers have RAID1 and RAID5 drives. I need to migrate the Windows 2000 Server to newer hardware and then upgrade the OS to at least Windows 2003 R2 as an interim solution. I have installed SSR 2013 on the Windows 2003 server but it will NOT image the Windows 2000 server. I have found the following software: Norton Ghost 10.0 - appears to be desktop only Norton Ghost 12.0 - appears to be desktop only Norton Ghost 2003 - Documentation states it will work with Windows 2000 SP4, but I think it is desktop only. Ghost Solution Suite 2.5(has invoice from 2008). Appears to support Windows 2000 server. I have installed this on the Windows 2003 server and then installed the client on the Windows 2000 server. I have created an image job, started the Ghostcast server. It appears I need to create a boot DVD to run Ghost.exe that somehow will connect with the Ghostcast server. Is that correct? Is there a procedure to create a boot DVD for this process? Is Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 my best solution to create an image and install on newer hardware? The immediate goal is to migrate the Windows 2000 server to newer hardware, upgrade to Windows 2003 and setup SSR 2013 scheduled backups(two licenses purchased. The longer term goal is to upgrade the OS to at minimum WIndows 2008 R2 but probably WIndows 2012 R2 on new hardware. Slightly complicated by the servers restricted from accessing the internet. Can someone confirm my thoughts re taking an Image of the Windows 2000 server? Is there a way to do this with SSR 2013? Thanks,839Views2likes2Comments
