Migration Tool Can't Connect to Directory
I ran through a test migration/upgrade from 9.0.4 to 10.0.2 in my lab today. Everything seemed to work OK, and all checks and steps passed. However, now that I'm on my new 10 server, I can't open the admin console, and am getting this event repeatedly logged: Event ID 8623 Cannot connect to the Enterprise Vault Directory service. Check the Enterprise Vault event log on OLDSERVERNAME.domain.com to find the cause of the problem. I am using an alias, so nothing should be pointing to this name. My alias DNS entry has been updated, and is pointing to the new server. Up until about 2 weeks ago, my lab was not using an alias, so I ran through this KB to change it: TECH179428. Any ideas before I open a support case? Thanks!Solved1.4KViews6likes9CommentsNew Compatibility Guide released...

Hi The Exch 2007 stores are moved to new unified storage and the host that holds the Symantec Enterprise Vault must also be moved into new LUNs on the new storage. I know that I can use copy or restore tools to do this, but I want tips or a bettersolution / online migration Regards KLPSolved1.3KViews5likes6CommentsAdvice on hardware for upgrading EV 7.5 SP3 to EV 10.x.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Our EV 7.5 SP3 environment needs an upgrade. Inevitably, the budget is very tight and I’ve been given strict instructions that I cannot exceed the allowance. Our Exchange 2007 environment consists of two CCR clusters and targets, for EV, a single server running EV 2007 7.5 SP3. There are approx 13,000 mailboxes, in place. The majority are user mailboxes, with shared mailboxes and a proportion of ‘former employee’ mailboxes. Our user base includes Citrix and VPN users, as well as OWA users and of course office based LAN users. Average mail item size is 100Kb. Our archive strategy is aggressive: all mail older than 28 days is archived via EV. Our current EV Server has about 13Tb of mail data stored already, and the ‘a5’ private queues are already rather huge: around 655000 for each of our two exchange server clusters. In the last couple of years, we’ve already added an extra 10Tb of archive space and doubled the size of the Indexing drive. In an ideal world, we’d probably have one EV server per Exchange CCR cluster, but the funds available will not stretch to that luxury. I’ve been offered an HP DL/580 G5 with 4 x Quad core processors, 32Gb of RAM and 15Tb of SAN storage – this is expected to last us three years The latter is to be split between Fast SCSI for Indexing and Fibre ETA for Archive storage. We’ll be relocating the existing direct attached arrays to the new server. It’s our intention to upgrade to the latest version of EV (10.0.2 ?) and realise that to do so, we’ll have to upgrade through EV 8.x and EV 9.x. before we can get to version 10. I’d appreciate any suggestions for alternative configurations of hardware that keep us within budget and give an improved throughput of archived data.Solved887Views4likes6CommentsQuestion regarding server settings migrator wizard.
Hi All! Has anyone usedServerMigration.exe for migrate EV server? I was reading the manual witch state that the tool is used for migrationg from 32-bit OS to 64-bit. Hi everybody. I'm working in a transition/instalation of Exchange 2010 from Exchange 2003, and now I'm going to install EV OWA Extensions on CAS 2010 Servers. Now, I have EV 9.0, but I will upgrade EV to 10.0.3 in few months. Can I install the OWA Extensions 2010 in the new CAS servers with EV server 9.0? Or I may install the 9.0 version by the moment? We currently have an issue where an EV partition was activated for migration to secondary storage using the Backup Exec migrator. Using this migrator the journal vault store data (~500GB) was written on tapes. After upgrading to EV 10 the indexes need to be updated. Needless to say that this is a very time consuming task as every single collection has to be restored from tape (tape library has to load the appropiate tape, seek the position, read the ~10MB, put the tape back in the slot etc). What is much worse: The index upgrade does not go through without errors - there seem to be some items which cannot be reindexed. We are currently thinking about ways to undo this migration so that the files (at least temporarily) stay on the primary storage which is several magnitues faster for troubleshooting and reindexing. Our current approach is to perform a PST export of the archive, which subsequently leads to all the ARCHCAB files being staged on the primary storage. However the files again are restored one by one (one Backup Exec restore job for every migrated cab file) and so the process would take several weeks. Questions: Is there a way to completely roll back the migration? Is there a way to ensure the staged ARCHCAB files are not deleted after 7 days (which I believe is the normal period for ARCHCAB files which were written back to the primary storage for retrieve purposes) Is there a way to restore all data from Backup Exec in a single restore job (which would allow sequential reading from tape which is much faster)? What if we'd simply manually restore all ARCHCAB files to the appropiate locations on the primary storage - would EV recognize this and use this as data source? Thanks!Solved860Views4likes7Comments
