VCS Setup - "Install A Clustered Master Server" Greyed Out
I originally posted this in the NetBackup forum but it seems to be a VCS issue that is the root of the problem: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/install-clustered-master-server-greyed-out I am trying to set up a test NBU 7.6.0.1 master server cluster with VCS on Windows Server 2008 R2but the option to "install a clustered master server" is greyed out. I have built2 new servers, installed SFHA / VCS 6.0.1and configured disks / volumes / disk groups / VVR replication. The VCS installation has not been modified or customised in any way as from my understanding the NBU installation will create its own service group. I have carried out the initial configuration and added the remote cluster node. Within cluster explorer, the defaultClusterService service group is all up and running, the global cluster option is enabled andthe remote cluster status also shows that the other cluster is up. Marianne has alreadyasked me to run two commands with the following output: 'gabconfig -a' - "GAB gabconfig ERROR V-15-2-25022" lltconfig -nvv - "LLT lltconfig ERROR V-14-2-15000 open \\.\llt failed: error number: 0x2" I've probably just made a silly mistake somewherebut I can't figure outwhat piece of the puzzle I have missed - any ideas?Solved4.5KViews1like37CommentsMigration of VCS Cluster to new servers
Hello, I have a two nodes veritas cluster with SQL & file shares ressources. The goal is to migrate the data and ressources to a new servers. How can I create first a standalone node and trasport the data and configuration of the cluster. And recreate the cluster as the original one. Thank you in advance for your help.Solved4.3KViews1like10CommentsUn-clustering a simple 2 node SQL cluster
Can anyone point me in the direction of some good articles or info on removing clustering all together. Here is our setup, 2 physical nodes, SFHA 5.1 SP2, 2008 enterprise 64bit, SQL 2005. We just don't need the clustering component anymore and are looking to actually virtualize this workload at some point as well.Solved4.2KViews2likes11CommentsUse of event triggers not working
Hi, My environment, SFW-HA 6.0.1 & Windows 2008 R2 node 1 & node 2 in one cluster with EV service group server 3 (not part of cluster) has CIFS shared folder \fileshare I need to have \\server3\fileshare mounted as drive Z: on active node before EV service group goes online. From CLI I can issue "net use Z: \\server3\fileshare" and the share is mounting OK, so i added this to preonline.pl script thinking that it will run just like on CLI.I tried to online service group with that trigger but it seems to be not working though engine_A log shows it was executed successfully. This is what I've added on preonline.pl script, $group = $ARGV[1]; if ($group eq "EV") { VCSAG_SYSTEM("net use Z: \\server3\fileshare"); } i tried using preonline.bat instead of perl script with just one line command "net use Z: \\server3\fileshare". first, i tried to just double-click on batch file to make sure its working and it did mount fine, 2nd, i tried onlining the service group, this time it somehow mounted the share but on My Computer it shows disconnected though I can read/write the drive, but the service group did not go online. I cannot dismount it anymore unless i reboot the active node. Any idea why it's not mounting through perl, and why it behaves like that through batch file? If the same syntax run manually it's fine but if its part of the trigger it's not workiing.2.3KViews0likes35CommentsVCS for SQL Server
Hello, We have a 3 node VCS cluster running 3 SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition instances in A/A/P role. I want to add another SQL instance in this existing cluster configuration. I read most of your forums and documentation guides. I would like ask few queries related to this. Plan to add another sql instance on this configuration would be, 1. Storage has been added to the cluster nodes for this new instance by our Storage admin (he created it by creating a separate servicegroup) 2. What would be my installation order for SQL Server? Always run SQL Setup on active node? (since active node hosting ServiceGroup of this instance will always hold the shared disk resources) . Can I install SQL server on passive node as well? 3. Can I apply SP and Patches to the SQL installation during its installation on individual nodes? or Does SP and Patches has to wait until server it ready first in RTM version? 4. Now once installation completed on NODE1, Stop the sql related services and set it to manual. 5. Switch the ServiceGroup for this instance to NODE2. It will now failover all the shared storage to NODE2 as well. 6. Start SQL installation here again with same instance name on NODE2. Confusing part: Since on VCS sql server installation is going to be happend as a standalone installation only. (not failover cluster installation as opposed to window clustering). This standalone installation on the same mount will replace the existingSystem data and log files of previous installation happened on NODE1? How will you install this SQL instance without effecting the exisitng files and directories out there? I have read somewhere that you need to rename the exisiting directories out there and make sure you do not override them. But My question is, Will this rename won't effect the sql when it will running back on node 1? Also when I am going to install on NODE3, I have to rename Both of NODE1 and NODE2 installation directories. so under the shared storage at the end i will be getting 3-3 DATA and LOG files for each installations, but under different directory structure. I am not sure how the last step [VCS SQL Configuration Wizard] will then reduce these 3 directory structures under the shared storage to only 1 ?What is the trick here? I am sorry, if I am thinking too much.. But this not documented anywhere. 7. Last step is,When done installing SQL on all nodes you simply run the VCS SQL Configuration Wizard to create the new SQL service group. PS: I am new to my company and company do not have proper documentations on how this setup was done previously and VCS clustering solution is pretty much new to me. Failover for VCS Global Cluster Setup: Veritas Storage foundation HA for Windows v6.1 Single node Local cluster Single node Remote cluster Data replicated between clusters via VVR A Global cluster will only failover to the remote cluster if the entire local cluster dies However if a Service Group fails on the local cluster it will not initiate a failover to the remote cluster. Is there a way around this since we have single node clusters? Basically I need the cluster to automatically failover to the remote cluster if a service group fails on the local cluster.Solved1.9KViews0likes2Commentsvcsencrypt password for generic resource in VCS
Hi, I have query. I installed and configured SFHA for application server, this application server has 5 services, which is running with same user name and password under service manager. I have configured the Generic resource for each services, however, the password is not encrypted in resource attributes. So I have used vcsencrypt utility to create the encryted password and plan to update in main.conf file. if we run vcsencrypt utility with password same as XXXXX for number of times, each time it is giving different encrpted password. My question is I have run vcsencrypt utility with password same as XXXXX, only one time and use the same encrypted password for all the 5 generic resource attributes or need to run 5 times the vcsencrypt utility with password same as XXXXX and update the each generic resource with seperate encrypted password.Solved1.9KViews0likes5CommentsVCS Service group configuration
Hello Guys, Need some explanation and clarification here. I have two systems installed with windows server 2008 R2. The both server currently have two hard drives the C drive and an E drive. The E drive on the both systems are currently connected via iscsi from a NAS. Names of the both system are winsvr1 and winsvr2 Both systems are guest virtual machines configured on hyper V. Name of the E drive on both systems are STU (E:) Now i have SQL server 2008 installed on both systems. I also have three virtual network cards with various ip addresses on them on both systems. The binaries are installed on the C drive while the following were installed on the E drive(MSSQL, data, logs, jobs etc) Now i have also installed VCS 6.0.1 on one of the systems(winsvr1) and i am trying to configure the service group to start on that system before replicating the same thing to winsvr2 and then configuring the failover. See attached also what is started up on my services.msc..... what should be put on manual or stopped. Now on trying to configure the vcs i am trying to use the tools>configuration wizard and also trying to choose a template and modify the template. Now i see so much on sql 2008 on the templates which one do i take and what next should i really do to get this service group online and working. I am basically stuck on what next to do to get the service group started.1.9KViews0likes16Comments
