Use Amazon Web Services to Store Your Backups
Moving your backups to AWS could present you an excellent alternative to tape from not only a cost perspective but also from an agility perspective – leapfrogging your data protection from the "dinosaur-era" to today's "instant era." Hi, Need some advice here, thank you. Any idea about this error when configuring CloudCatalyst on Linux media server? The error message is "Setting ESFS name and Local cache directory for xxxx -database system error(220)" which shown during configuring CloudCatalyst using Wizard as screenshot below. I'm trying to re-configure CloudCatalyst to this Linux media server was CloudCatalyst component was removed due to the firewall issue which has been fixed now. However, i could not configure CloudCatalyst on the same server anymore with this error. Could someone face the same problem as well? Thank you.1.5KViews0likes5CommentsS3 Cloud Storage setup across AWS accounts
Currently using NetBackup to backup servers in a single AWS account to S3 using an IAM user/access keys. This is working fine for backing up to S3 buckets in that account, but there is another AWS account that the NetBackup IAM user has cross acount access to that we want our master server to manage the backups of. The thing I'm trying to figure out is how do I configure netbackup cloud storage to use the IAM user in Account #1 to access/backup to the S3 buckets in Account #2? The IAM user is working just fine and I can access and manage the S3 buckets through CLI from the master in account #1 to account #2, but when configuring cloud storage, it doesn't have an option to say to use account #2's S3 bucket. It only loads the buckets in account #1 or gives me an option to Add Volume which seems to try and create the bucket in Account #1. Is it possible to point it directly to an existing bucket in a different account when the IAM user has cross account permissions or is an IAM user needed for each AWS account being accessed? I scrubbed up an old excel calcutor that some people might find interesting when dealing with deduplication for storage and data transmission between storage devices including cloud(s). Other caculators are avaliable that are backup/recovery centic and will give the amount of storage required that can be feed into this one. Given the prevalence of dedupe most people have a reasonable idea how much can be saved but they usually not aware what happens if the dedupe rate changes. The idea of this calculator to highlight how sensitive data stoage and transmission is to dedpulication efficiciency and less so to other metrics. < more here + download link>858Views0likes0CommentsBE 20.5 - Cloud Storage unavailable after update
Hello, Recently we have updated Backup Exec to 20.5 due to a requirement to update .net framework to 4.8. However since the update our S3-Compatible cloud storage device has been 'Offline'. At first we removed the cloud storage device and then re configured it, this was still showing as offline after all services were restarted. The server was rebooted, but still unavailable. We have confirmed the CloudInstance is available by running a Test-NetConnection on port 443 to the cloud storage server. The cloud storage instance SSL Mode is set to full so no backup data should be shipped on port 80. We are also able to access the buckets from the backup server via an S3 Client. For good measure we have removed and re-added the cloud instance, but still the same issue. When configuring the cloud storage device in backup exec it see's all the buckets available in the S3-compatible storage. Windows EventVwr confirms that the cloud storage first became unavailable during the update for 20.5 as show in the attached images. Has anyone else experienced this issue or can provide any advice? I'm rather hesitant to reinstall BE and the evidence is clear this is not a network related issue. Thanks All.590Views0likes0Comments(CEP-4349) Cloud Storage POC

Today's unrelenting data growth continues to drive the need for greater storage efficiencies and scalability, and many organizations have embraced object storage as the best approach for providing those efficiencies. However, limitations across multiple object storage solutions have left the full potential of object storage mostly unfulfilled. Attend this session to learn how Veritas is changing this unsatisfying object storage narrative – with a new kind of solution that uses embedded AI and ML to enable greater object storage scalability and lower overall costs from both a CapEx and OpEx perspective. This Vision 2017 session was delivered on Wednesday, Sep 20, 1:45 PM - 2:45 PM.
