NIC Teaming Slow Throughput, any ideas?
Hey guys, We currently have 2Gig set up through NIC teaming for our backup exec setup. When we have backups running, it barely reaches 35-40% of the bandwith. I am using Backup Exec 2010. Has anyone else here set up NIC teaming before? What are some things that might cause slow performance? Are there any specific settings in Backup Exec that may help? Thanks!5.2KViews3likes9CommentsNetBackup 7.1 Media (Device) Manager Won't stay started
We recently switched to capacity-based licensing and now our Windows media servers won't start as media servers. The first symptom of this was that we were having trouble with one of our media servers, so we decommissioned it and re-installed it (following documented instructions from NetBackup 7.1 Administrator's Guide). I then tried adding the devices through the Admin Console (from the master) wizard, and got the error that it couldn't start the "media manager device daemon", after I've verified that it's able to see the robot and tape drives. The client is a Windows Server 2003R2 running NBU 7.1 and the Master is a Solaris 10 running NBU 7.1.0.2. Following the troubleshooting guides and this thread, I found that I get the following in the Event Viewer after trying to start the Device Manager manually: "There are no entries in the drive database. The NetBackup Device Manager service only needs to run when devices are configured. The service will now exit.ce only needs to run when devices are configured. The service will now exit." I've tried to open up a support with Symantec, but when we switched to capacity-based licensing, they mucked something up and now my email is no longer attached to my customer number, and, therefore, licensing. I have an open case with licensing support to get it fixed, but in the meantime, I really need to get this fixed. Someone (Marianne, mph999?), please help! As you can see below, Shared Storage Option is enabled, as well as Remote Client Support. (Note that I've obscured the license key.) I really need some help with an NDMP problem. I'm working with a company whose previous IT staff left the department in shambles. They've got an install of NBU 7.0 that's running NDMP over SSO to a small library, on RHEL 5.0. After correcting a number of infrastructure issues, we're still getting erratic errors that are mostly code 84 (media write error). After a significant amount of troubleshooting, I've narrowed down that my problem is almost exactly described in this post: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/ndmp-job-failing-when-reaches-tape-fragmentation-size For the system, it is recommended that we request the patch for ETrack 2291889, but I cannot find it online anywhere. The department here does not have their licenses onsite, they're not sure where they'd be in the other office, which is on the other side of the country, and they're not even sure whether or not they have an active support contract. Because of all these assorted issues, upgrading to NBU 7.1 is not an issue. At this time, I can upgrade to NBU 7.0.1, but it appears that I will still need this patch to correct the issue. To complicate matters, the reason I was called in to assist is because the company's office is being physically moved starting on March 1st, and the last backup that was run was done well over 6 months ago. Ultimately, time is of the essence, and any assistance would be appreciated. Is there a way that I could get access to the patch for ETrack 2291889? Thanks in advance.Solved1.1KViews2likes5CommentsBackup Netapp CIFS Shares with BE2012
I have just installed BE 2012 to backup my newly installed Netapp FAS 2220A. When I try to add a new job on the Netapp filer name it does not recognize the username/password but can see Netapp as a server and Access is denied ( full access for everyone is configured on the Netapp share ). It is Keep on asking for a username/password even after providing the domain admin account. If I try to access the same name\share of the Netappfrom Run command I can access it without any problem. Any idea where is the problem. ApurSolved2.6KViews2likes13CommentsBackup to Disk and to Tape
I have any enviroment with both Physical and Virtual (VMware) servers I want to backup to both disk and tape. I have no fiber in the enviroment so I don't see FT w/SAN client being an option So I think that leaves me with a SAN media server. But since the SAN media server can only backup itself does that mean I would have to make every VM/Physical server I want backed up both a Nebackup Server and a Media Server. If that is the case that could get ugly very fast. Were would the SSO fall into place. It seems I need the tape library license as well. If I have 200 servers does that really mean I need 200 backup servers, yikes. It seems without fiber Netbackup enviroment could get fugly fast. I realize there are modules that could speed backup up. The thing is, if I go with Net Backup, I dont' want to end up with 1000 different modules during the initial implementation725Views2likes3CommentsDoes More than one Techn work at Symantec?????

Hi All We have purchased a Netapp E series SAn EX2724,this can be managed only through SANtricity Stirage Manager Client. I need to know How I can configure Netbackup software v 7 to backup the LUN that is provided by the above NetappSAN to following operating system, Solaris, VMWARE ESXi 5.0, Windows and also the oracle database and also duplicate it on the Tape Drive. Note: As per our companys instruction we do not want to install netbackup client on the solaris operating system, We want to directly backup the LUN that is provided to Solaris operating. We have mounted that LUN on the Solaris operating system, and a script on solaris dump some data on the lun. We will install Netbackup software on Windows server 2008. The correct version of the Agent for Windows must be running on the target computer.
I am gettting this error when trying to back up File shares (CIFS) from my EMC VNX san. "The job failed with the following error: The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Agent for Windows. The correct version of the Agent for Windows must be running on the target computer." I'v gotten this error before and it goes away and my back ups start to run fine but I have never been able to figure out the cause. I am backing these up as file shares and I have already enabled " Selection of user shares" . Its been about 3 months since I had this problem and I was never able to determine the solution it always fix's it self. I can telent to port 12000 which I have set as the TCP dynamic port range. I even tested ports 10000, 6101 and 6107 and all were open. I rebooted the server and even the services. Not sure why it would give me this error when there isn't even an agent loaded on the SAN. Any idea what causes this or how to resolve/prevent it?687Views1like2Comments
