NIC Teaming Slow Throughput, any ideas?
Hey guys, We currently have 2Gig set up through NIC teaming for our backup exec setup. When we have backups running, it barely reaches 35-40% of the bandwith. I am using Backup Exec 2010. Has anyone else here set up NIC teaming before? What are some things that might cause slow performance? Are there any specific settings in Backup Exec that may help? Thanks!5.1KViews3likes9CommentsSAN Backup failed - backup active with error robot operation failed
Hi fellow friends; I have issue with SAN backup. Component: Master Server: Windows 2008R2 Server Media Server: IBM AIX 7.1 Tape Library: Quantum i80, 4 units tape drives (LTO5) SAN Switch (Brocade) Veritas Netbackup v7.1 Issue: When run backup 'policy' for Media server (IBM AIX 7.1), media keep mounting forever then got robot operation failed (status from activity monitor). This policy configure to use storage unit define to backup through SAN network. If run backup for other client & using different storage unit, backup running OK and normally ended up status=0, completed. In summary: can conclude backup over SAN not OK while backup through LAN network is OK. Appreciated advice/comments/recommendation. Hello, Recently i have installed licence for Shared SAN option for our existing backupexec 2010 version. I have zoned the media server with FC connection. I tried to install the remote agent on a test server where i could test the SAN option, it worked fine. I have zoned the test server to the tape. I tried to set up the job using SAN but i couldn't find where i can select that option. Is there any steps i need to follow for shared SAN option. We recently switched to capacity-based licensing and now our Windows media servers won't start as media servers. The first symptom of this was that we were having trouble with one of our media servers, so we decommissioned it and re-installed it (following documented instructions from NetBackup 7.1 Administrator's Guide). I then tried adding the devices through the Admin Console (from the master) wizard, and got the error that it couldn't start the "media manager device daemon", after I've verified that it's able to see the robot and tape drives. The client is a Windows Server 2003R2 running NBU 7.1 and the Master is a Solaris 10 running NBU 7.1.0.2. Following the troubleshooting guides and this thread, I found that I get the following in the Event Viewer after trying to start the Device Manager manually: "There are no entries in the drive database. The NetBackup Device Manager service only needs to run when devices are configured. The service will now exit.ce only needs to run when devices are configured. The service will now exit." I've tried to open up a support with Symantec, but when we switched to capacity-based licensing, they mucked something up and now my email is no longer attached to my customer number, and, therefore, licensing. I have an open case with licensing support to get it fixed, but in the meantime, I really need to get this fixed. Someone (Marianne, mph999?), please help! As you can see below, Shared Storage Option is enabled, as well as Remote Client Support. (Note that I've obscured the license key.) Hi Guys, I'm having problem to make my SLP to run via SAN and hope you guys can help me or give me some ideas on this. Here's my environment details. All Netbackup running on version 7.7.2 1 master server - Linux Redhat 41 clients - Linux Redhat There is no dedicated media server On Master Server: We have 2 HBAs. One is 16GB (Qlogic QLE2660), which is not supported by Veritas (yet) based on hardware compatibility matrix. So we added a temporary HBA (Qlogic QLE2460) with 4GB speed. Driver successfully installed on QLE2460. We successfully configured FT backup for SAN clients based on below zoning setup. SAN Client Zone Member Client -initiator Master Server - target (4GB HBA) SAN storage - initiator/target The backup setup for all SAN client is to back them up to disk (which is on master server). And then it will be duplicated to tape via SLP. The issue is currently all the SLP is running via LAN and not FT. I wonder why since both the disk and tapelibrary are connected to master server. And to think that tape drive is on FC but data transfer to LAN is just doesn't make sense to me. So wezone the 16GB HBA (initiator) together with the 4GB HBA (target), setting the master server to be a SAN client as well (bpclntcmd -sanclient 1),thinking that perhaps we can make the data transfer from the 16GB card to 4GB card. The transport type when we backing up master server by itself now changed to FT. But it failed withFT Pipe could not be opened (83). Can we do a zoning for master server as below? Master Server Zone Member Master Server - initiator (16GB HBA) Master Server - target (4GB HBA) Tape library - target Basically we have 2 problems now. Based on what I explained above. Is it possible SLP to run on FT? Or do we need to have dedicated FT media server? Error 83 - Is it because both HBA belongs to the master server? Please help!~ Regards, Jason AnthoniusSolved2.1KViews0likes6CommentsDoes More than one Techn work at Symantec?????

We are trying to set up Linux server for the backup server, and are using NetApp storage for the both OS part and Backup data part. We have two different type of stroage both from NetApp. One is FAS which has a lot of storage based functions, and support NFS, SnopShots, DR replications. The other one is E-serieshas less functions and primarily for the backup data images. Should I seperate OS and Data part , one on FAS, and the other on E, or does that matter. Thanks!Solved1.9KViews0likes12Comments
