Invalid Physical Volume Library Media Identifier
Hello, I have W2008R2, BEX 2012 doing duplicate backup to tapes at the end of each month. I tried to do a restore from these backupsets (Dec, Nov, Oct, Sept) and got the "0xe0008105Invalid Physical Volume Library Media Identifier" error for the failed job. Aug works. All of these(Dec, Nov, Oct, Sept) duplicate backup jobs completed without error messages. For each of these sets I tried an inventory and catalog where they scan the first tape in the set, prompt for the second, and then also fail with the same error message. I went back to my Aug backup set of tapes and I am able to do a restore from that set. Also, I can restore from all the tape backup sets if the data exists on the first tape only. Please advise. I have Backup Exec 2010 R3 installed on Windows 2008 R2. This is our legacy tape backup solution before we went to a disk based system. I have hundreds of tapes and keep Backup Exec around for old restores. We used to have a NetApp with CIFS shares and backed them up to tape via NDMP backups. The NetApp has been replaced with a new Nimble SAN. I am trying to do a restore of files from the NetApp tapes. Since I don't have a NetApp anymore I am trying to restore to a Windows box. I get the error below. How can I restore NetApp NDMP tapes to a Windows system? e0001315 - An invalid destination was specified for the redirected restore. NDMP backup sets can only be redirected to an NDMP server of the same brand.Solved5KViews0likes6CommentsDisk storage unit is full(129) after duplication
Greetings dears! In NetBackup 7.5 Master Server, I have a Storage Unit with: Type: Disk Disk Type: BasicDisk High Water mark 90% Low water mark 80% In Staging Schedule: storage unit: Tape_Library volume pool: Full_Pool The Storage Unit is 9.1 TB in size with 300GB free. All images currently in this unit are duplicated to tapes. The images have a retension policy of 3 weeks. All of them are created during these 3 weeks, not before! I now try in this unit to create an image (through manual backup process) of approx 600GB. The job exits with error 129 (Disk Storage Unit full) Since all images are duplicated to tapes, shouldn't some of them get cleaned up from the disk to free space for the next image to come? Have i misconfigured something? Thank you for in advance for your answers! Best regards!3.9KViews0likes14CommentsDuplicating a hardware encrypted tape to an unencrypted tape
I have an LTO5 tape that has been backed up with hardware encryption. It has a variety of different types of backup sessions (flat files, MS SQL servers, MS Exchange) and I've been given the passphrase, so I've re-created the key and can pull off the flat files without any issue. The client has asked me to create an unencrypted version of the tape (they wish to use various 3rd party tools to extract the SQL and MS Exchange backups), and I've tried doing this with the duplication function, but I can't get it to work. I have a second tape drive in which I've mounted a freshly erased and labelled LTO5. When I try duplicating the original sessions from the encrypted tape onto it, I'm given the option of types of encryption (I chose none) but BE is switching on hardware encryption on the target drive anyway. This is regardless of whether I use DirectCopy, or choose to actually have encryption (which then gives me the option of choosing which key to use). Any ideas? Is there some option or other hidden deep in the bowels of BE that's telling it to encrypt everything it writes to tape by default?3.7KViews0likes11CommentsData to Tapes Not Compressed
I am using LTO6 tapes with the HPE MSL2024 tape library. I am sure the Hardware Compression has been enabled at the tape library level, but the data writing to the tapes does not seem to be compressed at all. Each tape shows Full when the usage reachs to 2.8TB which is just raw capacity. BTW, my NetBackup system is a NetBackup Appliance 5230. It looks like the hardware compression is disabled from the Appliance somewhere. Any idea would appreciated. Ross3.4KViews0likes9CommentsCartridge LTO 4 always frozen when using LTO 5 robot
Hi Guys, i have a problem that i can't solved. i have 2 type robot machine, LTO 4 and LTO 5, but last month, my LTO 4 was failure and cannot be used anymore. so the company decided to use only LTO5 robot for any backup to tape. i have read that LTO 4 can be used for read and write in LTO5 machine, so i try to do backup my file to tape LTO4 using LTO5 robotic. But, when i try to do backup, the job was failed because something that i don't understand, and when i see in my NetBackup 6.5, in media menu, all of my media that used to backup job is frozen. I have no idea to solve it, would you please to help me guys? Hi, I'm using HP tape drive (LTO4). The job gets stuck on verify part (somewhere between 20-40% of the progress). After cancelling the job, Byte Count immediately forwards to the value that is 100% of completion. Looking at Job History, every single Backup and Verify operation has status Completed, without any errors or exceptions. Backup is set for 3 servers (2 remote agents), all of them are Windows Server 2008 R2. What can cause this problem, how can I solve it? I've tried the LiveUpdate (BE was updated, but it didn't solve the problem), deleting tape drive, restarting Remote Agent services.2.6KViews0likes7CommentsBackup Exec Not Recognizing Tape Media
I'm new to Backup Exec and am having trouble getting our backups working. We use NDMP to backup NetApp to a robotic tape library. Under the Media Properties of the tape drive it states "There is no media in the drive." When I try to run a job it gets stuck on "Active: Queued - Backup Scan" This is on Backup Exec 20.5. I've tried restarting the tape library and server, manually loading tapes to the drive, adjusting the overwrite protection, and inventories are completed succussfully. Any suggestions?2.5KViews0likes7CommentsCompatability between Oracle ASM and Veritas Netbackup
Hi Experts, I am a solution architect for one of the project and stuggling to understand the solution proposal for one of the customer. So the situation is like this --- There are couple of Oracle Databases with ASM Confiigured, now customer is looking for a backup and restore solution to Tapes, wehave proposed Veritas Netbackup. Now there are couple of doubts related with the compatability issues between Oracle ASM and Netbackup Software. 1. Is it possible for netbackup software to interact with the ASM disks (Backup Disk Group) and fetch the data using its policies. 2. The other option coming is - instructing RMAN to take backups and without keeping them in disk stream them over to the Tapes ? -- In this case is there any need of Netbackup Software ? 3. Current poicy: They are taking their backups using RMAN to ASM disk groups, any way to move those backups directly from the ASM groups to tapes using netbackup ? 4. I know their are certain limitations when using ASM - Clone or snapshor and Proxy level backups are not possible .... Any other limitations with the ASM which i missed or any other issues with ASM ?? Please Help, i am struck in a real difficult situation. Thanks Guys, Prashant2KViews0likes2CommentsSlow backup to tape
Hi, We're having some trouble backing up virtual and physical servers to tape. We're not getting the speed it should get and it takes up a lot of time to back up the environment. 2,63TB of data takes up more than 24 hours. Information about job, tape & tape drive: Tape type:HPE LTO Ultrium 6 6,25TB MP RW Tape Drive: MSL 2024 Compression: Hardware Encryption: None Verify: Yes These backups are going through the internal network within the domain. The average backup speed is 4,300MB/m (which is way to slow) When we backup locally on the backup server (for example the D:\ drive where the incremental disk backups are saved on the backup server) it gets to a speed of 10500MB/m. Which is understandable considering it's a straight connection to the tape drive. What did we do to try and resolve it: * Checked the compression * Checked encryption * Replaced tapes for new tapes * Resetted the tape drive * Updated Tapedrive firmware * Checked out the network for inconsistencies (not found), file transfers via other apps around 126mbs from server to server) * Job from VM on hyper-visor to tape (around 2,900 MB/m) * Local disk to tape (between 10500MB/M and 13500MB/M) * VM to disk on the backup server (Around 6200MB/M) Help would be appreciated.1.8KViews0likes2Comments
