Windows Update on Backup Exec 2010 Server

We've got a Backup Exec 2010 server running on Windows Storage Server 2008 R2. Our Microsoft WSUS server shows that it needs over 107 Microsoft Security updates. Our Backup Exec admin says when he checks for updates in the Backup Exec console it doesn't show it needs any. Should we be worried or is there anothe way to apply the updates? Our admin says he can't navigate to the Microsoft Update site either.

  • Hi Sandy,

Check the TN out below...it states how you need to do this through the web interface of the appliance. It is seriously locked down and therefore you can't update it through WSUS.

    Thanks!

  • So, this is NOT a BE3600 Appliance, right?

Backup Exec 2010 server running on Windows Storage Server 2008 R2.

Not sure why you posted in the Appliance forum?

Backup Exec on Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 will not have any knowledge of Windows Security updates...

  • ...might be WSUS if it can't read the OS correctly. Log a call with Symantec so they can clear it up. They'd have better access to the appliance.

  • We are using the web interface console in the Manage tab. WSUS says the server needs 107 updates. The BE web interface shows needing none. Where might the disconnect be?
