Backup Exec 11d Remote Agent on Windows Server 2012

hi

currently we are using Backup Exec 11d and make a backup of a Windows 2003 Server.
For this we are using the Backup Exec 11d remote agent on the w2k3 server.
The backup includes the w2k3 system and data files.

Now we want to upgrade the server from 2003 to windows 2012 r2 (64 bit).

Will the Backup Exec 11d remote agent run on the new windows 2012 server?
If not, is it still possible to backup the 2012 server without the remote agent?
Special features and backup of some server system stuff is not so important.
It would be sufficent if the backup of the pure data files would work. Is that possible
without the remote agent?

  • Currently, BE 2014 is the only version which supports Win 2012 R2.

Without a remote agent, you may try a CIFS-level backup of just the shares. Have a look @ these KBs-

  • Thanks for the quick reply.

I will try to make a backup on the CIFS-level.
    I don't see why it shouldn't work.

The performance will be bad perhaps. But it's important for us that we can at least make a backup for the next time. An upgrade of BE still can be done later.

  • Do bear in mind, a RAWS license is still required when backing up over CIFS level and as the remote agent isn't installed, the job log will contain errors such as - Remote agent not detected.

  • Where can I activate the RAWS licence when the remote agent cant't be installed?

  • You need to install \ import RAWS license on the BE media server.

  • In the Backup Exec UI, click on Tools - Options - Install agents/options on this media server.
