backup exec File Restore to a qnap NAS drive

We have small business server running backup exec 2010 R3 and we're trying to do a restore a QNAP NAS device ( We backup to an Ultrium tape drive ). I can set the target to the qnap\share but when i run the job it failes with:

 

Final error: 0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource.  Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again.  If the server or resource no longer exists, remove it from the selection list. Edit the selection list properties, click the View Selection Details tab, and then remove the resource.
Final error category: Resource Errors
 

Basically im just trying to move approx 250GB data to the NAS and thought running restore to it would be the easiest way but it seems not.

Any help or guidance is appreciated.

    Craig, I think you're right, b/c Backup Exec requires a Remote Agent in order to restore data to a device.  Currently there is no remote agent for QNAP for this version of Backup Exec (there is a Remote Agent for Linux Server which is what is needed for QNAP, but it only works with Backup Exec 2010 R1).

    Your suggestion would work fine for small restores (though it's an extra pain in the *ss), but what if we're trying to restore the entire QNAP?  That would mean we'd have to limit all NAS shares to half the capacity of the QNAP so that we could create an iSCSI LUN with the other half to handle the restore of the entire QNAP in case of a major failure.  And the restore time would be double -- first to the iSCSI LUN and then the copy operation from the LUN to the NAS share(s). 

    What we really need is a supported version of the RALUS to keep up with the latest versions of Backup Exec.

    Hi,

     

    If your NAS can do iSCSI, it might be worth your while to carve out the necessary amount of disk space as an iSCSI LUN and then present to the media server.

    Restore to this, and then do a file-level copy to another folder on the NAS if need-be (say if you have to share amongst other servers).

    Also make sure you're using the correct username/password when connecting to the NAS.
