- Dev_TLevel 6Hello,
Was it working in trial? - s3cactusLevel 3Yes,
I then tried to do a repair install without success.
I would probably like to uninstall reinstall but this server is now in prod and it will be hard to reboot. - Dev_TLevel 6Hello,
Remove the license keys and run the software in trial again and check if notification is enabled
- s3cactusLevel 3Yes I removed the quickstart and now I do have the notification option in the job properties, I am re-entering the license again...
- s3cactusLevel 3Once I enter the Quickstart license, I lose the notification option in the job properties.

Once I enter the Quickstart license, I lose the notification option in the job properties.
That's the second time you have said you intalled the serial for QuickStart
Generally QuickStart is a free/stripped down version provided by drive manfacturers along with the purchase of a drive
AFAIK, QuickStart does not support EMail notification (or anything other than very basic job creation and scheduling - s3cactusLevel 3Of course it does, I work for an IT firm supporting multiple clients. I have versions of quickstart installed from 10 11d 12.5, 2010, all with email notifications working fine.
There is clearly a bug here...
The technician asked me to remove the license, which I did, which in turn restored the notification option.
So, I need my valid license working of course, so I figured, since some patches were installed, that re-entering the license could fix the issue.
Which it did not. - teiva-boyLevel 6There is no question, and it's fact that the Quick Start edition is a stripped down version of BackupExec that is given by the tape drive or server manufacturers, and offers no support from Symantec. All support comes from the hardware vendor that supplied the software. You cant add options short of LEO licenses, and Symantec doesnt sell extended support for quick start editions. You can however upgrade to the full blown version, which then gets you support directly from Symantec.
Now BackupExec is always a FULL edition, with all of the options available, and the keys dictate what functions are enabled, and when it expires.
some proof of what I stated above can be read here:
http://customercare.symantec.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/95/~/backup-exec-oem-and-quickstart-general-information
Now, the question comes to, what parts are missing in the quick start? I've never figured it out myself and have seen no matrix or comparison to the paid for edition.
You need to contact the hardware vendor to have them report the issue, who will in turn contact Symantec.
If you are a consultant, you are doing your customers a dis-service by not providing them the full copy of BE, as there are a lot of options that simply recovery, and protect their data better. IMO, Quickstart is only a hair better than NT Backup.
