Granular Restore - Exchange

 Hello Everyone.

I have been trying to use the granular restore feature to backup Exchange to the mailbox and email level but cannot get it to work. The account we are using does have full access on the Exchange server. The account also does have an active email account. When we look to do a restore we can only restore to the store level and that's it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

  • Is the service account name unique?  Open a outlook client and type the first five letters of the service account in the TO field and hit ctrl-k. If its not unique then it wont work.

  • Hello,

    For GRT backups/restore we require following rights for the Backup Exec Service Account

    Make sure that Enable Granular Restore Technology is Checked ...
    Open job properties-->Exchange

    1  : Unique Account (Must not contain words like : admin, administrator...etc)
    2  : Must have a Active Mailbox
    3  : Must not be hidden from the Exchange Address List
    4  : Must have "Send As" and "Receive As" permissions http://support.veritas.com/docs/23671
    5  : Must be Exchange Server Full Administrator
    6  : Must be the member of the Domain Admin Group in Active Directory

    After assigning these rights we can perform a test :
    1  : Open Symantec Backup Exec console
    2  : Go to tools-->Options-->Microsoft Exchange
    3  : Check the Box "Enable Legacy Mailbox support"  click OK (THIS IS ONLY FOR TEST PURPOSE)
    4  : Open the Selection list OR we can also create a new one.
    5  : Try to Expand Mailboxes...If you are able to see all the Mailboxes...you have done it....

    Uncheck "Enable Legacy Mailbox support" ....

    Hpoe this helps !
