missing some bfk files - restore with some missing still?

i need to restore a full back up (we got hit with crypto) and its missing a bunch of the bkf files, it somehow got switched to delete after 4 weeks and my fault for not catching it. is there anyway to extract whatever bfk files i  have somehow? i know there will be lost data, but some data is better than no data. windows sbs2008  backupexec 2010 r3.4

Thanks

brian

  • Try below steps...

    1) Perform an inventory on the B2D folder which contains .bkf files.

    2) Uncheck "Use Storage media based catalogs" option.

    Refer to https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH6164.html

    3) Run a catalog job for the .bkf files.

    4) Once catalogs job completes successfully open restore window to view contents of the .bkf files.

  • ok, so i understand this correctly

goto devices - click on removeable backup to disk folder 002 (current one) - right click it, inventory it. once that is complete, uncheck use storage media based catalogs.

goto the FLDr00xx under removeable back up to disk folder 002 and select all the bfks and right click catalog?

when i do that step i get media not found and it creates about 20-25 catalog jobs some are failing with error E0000900

  • This is expected as you mentioned that some of the bkf files are missing.

Refer to the below article, read the Note mentioned after Step#5 of Solution A

    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH45473.html

  • thank you for your help, but after doing this, its still not doing what im trying to do.

i can see what in the bfk, but how do i just extract what is there, when i run a restore it keeps looking for media thats not there.  if it hi ok on alert it just pops a little bit later.

  • ok i deleted the catalogs, restated the backup exec services and recataloging, its taking for ever now, is this the step i forgot?

  • That is one of the workaround if the catalog job fails.

  • so now i seen what files i can restore, assuming since some of the folder paths have red x's?

does it usally take hours for to catalog a bfk? still getting some failures
