mounting volumes via pre command

hello forum members,

issue:
we want to backup volumes which have to be mounted at the scheduled job via a pre command.

when Backup Exec starts a scheduled job it first veryfies the selection-list to back up and find there is just a Volume sys: currently mounted (The Volumes which have to be backup are dismounted at this stage).

Issue:
Backup Exec does not backup Volumes wich will be mounted via a pre command which successfully mounts additional volumes to the system. The job ends up in an error:

Error determining next backup target. Selections for Server1.Netware file system/ Server1/volume1: will be skipped. Found 0 devices.
Error nothing was found to backup.

Background: the Storage devices/volumes are EVA-Storage Mirrored-Clones which will be just temporary accessible during daytime (6:00 am - 6:00 pm) at the Backup-Server via FibreChannel.

any help appreciated
thanks Michael

  • Have you considered using CRON to do this?

  • Hello Chris,
yes we thought about cron but our Novell Consulting Team is afraid to get handling issues by our Novell Operating Admins. So they are not happy with a cron solution.

But we got a hint from one of our Senior Employee to solve the issue with cascading jobs:
First job is a dummy job ( i.e. backup SYS:) with a pre command to mount the Volume1.
Second job is the job to backup Volume1 with a pre command which mounts volume2 ...

Not very elegant but it should work and i guess there is currently no other way.

    Thanks and greetings
    Michael
