Set up exchange database backups with exec vray 14 edition
Greetings, I our institution we have 2 host running Windows Data Center with hyper V, we buy the Backup Exec 14 Vray Edition for the backups. We have an Exchange server 2013 and a Server for SQL 2012 databases both servers are virtual. We're trying to set up backups for the exchange database and sql databases (not for the server), I will like to know if there its a manual for configuring the Exchange database in a virtual server or if we need to buy an agent for the backup. I want to make clear that we're trying its to make backups for the databases and not for the server itself. Thank you for the support.
Hi there,
You should check out the blog below outling what's included in the V-Ray license (Kate Lewis wrote a pretty good summary of it):
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/whats-included-backup-exec-v-ray-edition
So your agents are included.
The Admin Guide is on the link below and this will help you set up your jobs properly:

Thanks!
As previously advised, the V-Ray edition gives you an unlimited number of Agent for Applications and Datatabases licences which allows you to backup Exchange and SQL Server databases in your VM's. You would need to install the remote agent in the VM's.
I hope you are aware that there is no need to backup Exchange and SQL Server databases separately. You can backup the VM as part of the host backup and you would be able to restore individual mail items and SQL databases from this VM backup using GRT.
However, if you do want to backup Exchange and SQL Server databases separately, then select the VM as part of the host backup (after the backup, the VM will appear in the list of servers) or add the VM to the BE console. After this, you can configure your Exchange and SQL Server databases backup job as if the VM is a physical server. Just right-click on the VM and select the appropriate resource.
