Unable to backup domain controller

Hi

 

My Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 SP4 recently cannot backup the system state of my DC.  The error message is below: 

V-79-57344-33928 - Access Denied. Cannot backup directory \Active Directory\CN=Configuration\CN=DisplaySpecifiers\CN=41F\CN=addressBookContainer-Display and its subdirectories.
V-79-57344-33928 - Access Denied. Cannot backup directory \Active Directory\CN=Configuration\CN=DisplaySpecifiers\CN=41F\CN=addressTemplate-Display and its subdirectories.
V-79-57344-33928 - Access Denied. Cannot backup directory \Active Directory\CN=Configuration\CN=DisplaySpecifiers\CN=41F\CN=addrType-Display and its subdirectories.

The backups were working until last week.  There is no updates installed.

I've used the domain admin account for permissions access still the same issue.

 

any ideas?

 

  • restarted the agent on the DC and its working now.

  • I dont have any hotfixes as mentioned above.

    Its seems to be pot luck if it works.

    I ran the same job 3 times worked 1 of the 3 times. 

    I have downloaded all the new hotfixes to see if this resovled the issue but still the same.

  • Is the DC that holds your FSMO roles either not available or the other side of a slow link causing issues with response times if it is queried?

     

    Note the current Backup Exec process does query the FSMO role owner when backing up the system state of a DC.

  • Is the DC running on Win2003 or Win2008(R2) ?

    And after updating your backup exec media server, did your update the agent on the DC ?

  • The dc is running win2003, I didnt update the agent on the DC

  • restarted the agent on the DC and its working now.
