Are Closed Index Locations still in writeable state?

Hi,

Just had a query,

In EV 10.0.4, are Closed Index Locations still writeable? Will there be some data/metadata written in the locations that are designated as closed?

If so, what kind of data and if it is impacting disk space, then what is the remedy?

  • Hello DK.

In 10.0.4, a closed indexlocation is really closed.

There will be no change anymore, unless you perform deletions (which removes entries, not add them).

    Frmo the EV10Indexing PDF:

"Closed means closed" 64-bit Index locations allowing making index backups more scalable. No further ingestion or new index volumes but updates/deletes still occur on existing index volumes

This is like a closed Vault Store Partition, but that can change in size due to retrievals, cab file creation, deletes etc.

    See article: http://www.veritas.com/docs/000045998 for EV11.0.1

"Enterprise Vault does not create new indexes in a closed location or update existing indexes that are in a closed location. Enterprise Vault automatically creates new indexes in an open location, as required."

In both versions, existing indexes will process deletions and updates, but no additions. an update is (for instance) a moved item.

  • in previous versions of EV it wasnt the case but ever since EV 10, closed index locations are not writable however, deletes can still happen (which is the same with closed vault store partitions.)

  • There is a thing called "white space"

  • Hey Gertijan,

Thanks for sharing the information. I was simply not sure about the update aspect.
