Enterprise vault email archiving keeps pending

Hi,

We have installed enterprise vault 9.0.1.1073 on a Windows 2008 R2 server. We have exchange 2010 and outlook 2010.

After everthing is installed and configured we are now trying to archive emails for our users, and after provisoning their emailboxes and enabled archiving we are not started the archiving.

Emails get the placeholder icon (icon is a clock), and the message This item is being archived by Enterprise Vault , do not copy, move or delete this item.

I have tried to make an backup of the vault databases with reset archive bit (We are using Symantec Backupexec)
All services are restarted several times, i have also tried to run the archiving job in report mode but it doesn't seem to make any log if im not running the report job instead of archiving job.

I have tried this option, but cant seem to find this option in our configuration

Option 3 - Within the Mailbox Policy - versions 6 and higher

1. Open the VAC and browse to the Site, Policies, Exchange, Mailbox section
2. Right click on the Mailbox Policy and select the Advanced Tab
3. On the "Archiving General" settings tab change the Pending Shortcut Timeout value to 0 and then select 'OK' to save the policy changes
4. Run a Synchronization job on the appropriate Mailbox Archiving task(s) which archive the affected mailboxes
5. Repeat steps 2 to 4 for each mailbox policy that applies to affected mailboxes.
6. Browse to the appropriate Site, Enterprise Vault Servers, Server, Task section(s) that contain the mailbox archiving task(s) that archive the affected mailbox(s)
7. Right click to select Run Now on the appropriate Archiving Task
8. Select Report mode and the mailbox or mailboxes that have archive pending items.

Does anyone of you have other solutions or tips we can try to solve this problem?

Regards,

Thomas B

  • Hi Thomas,

The way to go is as follows:

Set EV in backupmode (using the powershell scripts, or in the VAC by rightclicking the VSG)

Backup EV Data (indexes and stores), and reset the archive bit on the stored files (dvs, dvssc and dvssp)

If you cannot reset the archive bit with your backup application, consider using 'attrib -a' or use the triggerfile (check forum and doc site for how to)

When backed up, take EV out of backup mode. At that time, you should see a 'storagefilewatch' process running. That will convert the pending shortcuts to archived shortcuts.

If you already have items backed up AND the archive bit is being removed, set ev in backup mode, than take it out again. That should also update the pending shortcuts to archived ones.

  • Do you have Outlook 2010 installed on the EV server?  If so remove that and install Outlook 2007.  Outlook 2010 is not supported on the EV server at this time.

Is your vault store configured to keep safety copies?

  • you need to back up the partitions and reset the archive bit there. The databases are just pointers.

Backup the partition(s), reset the A attribute, wait, wait some more, then check mailboxes.

    Should be fully archived.

  • We don't have outlook 2010 installed on the EV server, but outlook 2007. We installed outlook 2010 on our clients, and that is supported?

  • Yes with 9.0.1 client extensions, Outlook 2010 will function (from an EV point of view) on the workstations.

  • Hi Rob, so does this mean that we can just download the 9.01 client exntesion even though the EV server is still running in 2007 SP5? We are not yet ready to make the jump yet to version 8-9 but curious if this can be done to allow OL 2010 client to search/archive items.

    Thanks

  • Sorry but according to the compatability doc no.

    g. The Enterprise Vault 9.0.1 HTTP-Only Outlook Add-In is supported with Outlook 2010 against EnterpriseVault 8.0 SP4 and SP5 servers, and against Enterprise Vault 9.0.0 servers. However, a hotfix is required for the Enterprise Vault 8.0 SP4 servers and for the Enterprise Vault 9.0 servers:

  • Tony is right - it is also quite likely that is why your items stay pending..  the EV server hasn't actually archived them because when your Outlook 2010 EV 9.0.1 client told it to do so, it didn't understand the request.

    8 SP 4 + hotfix

    8 SP 5

    9.0 + hotfix

    9.0.1

Are the options on the server, if you want to run the Outlook 2010 EV 9.0.1 client addin.

    Hope that helps,
