FSA Problem

Hi,

I'm runing EV 8 SP4 for FSA. We have four 2008 R2 64 bit servers. Three of them are OK, but one has problems...

The deployment scanner says that it is "Unable to determine the version of the .NET Framework" but it has the same roles and features installed as the other three servers.

I was able to remotely install the FSA agent with no problem and have configured volumes and folders to archive. When the archiving begins I get the following event:

  Log Name:      Symantec Enterprise Vault
  Source:        Enterprise Vault
  Date:          05/07/2010 21:00:03
  Event ID:      41146
Task Category: File System Archiving Task
  Level:         Error
  Keywords:      Classic
  User:          N/A
  Computer:      CORP0-ACV-001.btw.gov.uk
  Description:
Error getting system folder using WMI on server name: corp0-fs-002.btw.gov.uk
Reason: The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)

Can anyone suggest what's wrong?

Thanks,

Paul.

  • Hi Paul,

On the affected server, is the .net enabled? You might have the folder, but that does not mean it is enabled I think.
I have no hands-on experience with FSA, but here is what I would check/do, based on the errors.

Could you turn off the firewall on that server?
Could you turn off UAC on that server?
Does the VSA has appropriate rights? (if applicable, again I am no FSA-expert)
Does the account you use for the agent has appropriate rights?
Are the servers all in the same OU, and do they have the same policies applied?

  • I've tried turning off the firewall but this makes no difference. I've already added an exception for the three EV service programs.

The VSA is a local admin, and the agents run as this account.

The servers are all in the same OU.

I don't really want to turn off UAC...
  • Hi Paul,

I understand not wanting to trun off UAC, but it is a test... If it then works, you know it is 'something' with UAC.

I am out of ideas here, so I hope someone else will answer.
