Index migration

hi

i need to migrate several TBs of static index data from W2K3 server with SAN over to W2K8 server with NAS storage. At the moment I am leaning towards robocopy to do the job. I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions?

As per usual i need the easiest and cheapest solution.

Ideally i want to be able to run in multiple threads to speed up the data copy process.

Thanks in advance!

  • Having migrated Indexes several times to various platforms I can attest that robocopy works great.

  • WitSend do you recommend and particular switches to include with robocopy? i plan to use robocopy from the target server W2K8 and pull the data over from W2K3.

You dont forsee any issues with the 2 servers being in separate AD forests with 2 way trust? all security and permisisons will copy over ?

  • I don't see any problems with separate AD forests other than making sure you have the domains listed in the network adaptor settings.
