P2V Enterprise Vault 10 - Suggestions

Hi there Forum,

I am thinking about virtualizing my SEV server and would like to reach out to you all and find out if there are any "best practices" when attempting to do this. Not sure if there are any official instructions on the internet, but I wanted to find out if anyone out here has tried this or has any experiences they can share.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Have a nice day.

  • Oh and i've administered, upgraded and supported a fair number of Virtualized EV installations and honestly most of the time there's no real difference between a physical and virtual, what i will say however, is that if you have a weak VM administrative team some of those can be painful to use

  • Something that needs to be taken in consideration is the degradation on the performance. I am not sure what version of Enterprise Vault are you running, but take a look at the performance guide so you know what to expect once the Enterprise Vault server is virtualized. For EV 10.0.3, this is the performance guide:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC4553

If you are running another Enterprise Vault version, use the following document and click the on the link for the EV version you are running:

  • Enterprise Vault supports the use of all virtualization technologies that run supported versions of the Windows operating system.

When you deploy Enterprise Vault on virtual servers, you should consider the performance limitations of each virtualization platform relative to the information in the Enterprise Vault Performance Guide. See technical note TECH125795 at http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH125795 .

Enterprise Vault supports VMware High Availability, and the VMware vCenter Converter Standalone tool.
