Removing FSA share (returning all data to it's original location)

I am looking for documentation that describes how to turn off FSA for a share. Have looked through the administrators guide and online... Nothing that warrants a guide...

Is it as easy as Unticking "Archive This folder" and "Archive subfolders" on the share properties? Seems too easy.

  • I want to unarchive the share. (By unticking Archive this folder and subfolders, does this return the data back to the FS in full next time FSA Task is run?)
  • When it's unarchived delete the data off the FSA (Phsysically delete the data that has been returned from the Windows FS)
  • Remove the Target (Remove the share from the list of targets in Evault)

Could it be as simple as that?

  • What version of EV?

You would use the FSAUtil to restore the items back and then remove the share as a target and if you don't need it you can remove the FSA Agent (Placeholder service) from the File Server.

See this technote for info about FSAUtil

  • Is there a way to run the FSAUtil in report mode only to determine if there is enough space to restore everything?

  • Yes, there is a switch for that.  If you look in the Utilities guide chm or pdf there will be a section for FSAUtility and list the switches.
