virtual vault outlook preview

Dear all,
we try to use the virtual vault function from Vault 8 SP3.
The virtual vault itself works, sync is OK, only the outlook preview on objects in vault doesn't work.
In the desktop policy the Vault Server is member of the intranet zone.
In the Advanced Virtual Vault settings: Show content in Reading Pane: "Always show content" is selected

Any idea why my preview in Outlook Virtual Vault doesn't work?

Server: Windows Server 2008, SQL 2005 SP3, Vault 8 SP3
Client: Windows XP SP3, Outlook 2007 SP2, Vault 8 SP3 Outlook Addin

    There are some things in the logs that don't match a what I get when an item is opened in the reading pane.
    Do you have other Outlook add-ins enabled? If so could you disable all other add-ins using "Tools | Trust Center... | Add-ins", restart Outlook and retest.

    Hey Hermann,

    First thing to do is make sure you have synchronized the users mailbox.  Second thing is to reset the Virutal Vault (hold ctrl + shift, click on one of the vault toolbar icons, click the reset button, restart Outlook).  Lastly, resync the Virtual Vault, then let us know how you get on?

    Hi,
    i did this already 2x times, now again (exactly these steps)
    the same problem, virtual vault works, preview not available
    any other ideas?

    Hi,

    Are you just seeing a blank preview?  No banner, no text, nothing?  Your Virtual Vault folder structure is visible and you can double an item and view it ok?

    No banner, no text, nothing?  --> clear page with the message that there is now preview available
    Your Virtual Vault folder structure is visible and you can double an item and view it ok? --> yes, the folderstructure is OK, if i make a double click (open the email) everything is OK

    Only the preview is missing... :(

    Hi,

    Might be able to see what is happening from the client log. Turn on "Minimum Tracing" and tick "Include Virtual Vault" in the "Enterprise Vault Diagnostics" dialog (ctrl + shift, click on one of the vault toolbar icons). Restart Outlook and navigate to an item in VV that is in a folder with the reading pane turned on.

    Open up the log using the "Enterprise Vault Diagnostics" dialog.
    Look for [Common::GetFullItem] and see if there are any obvious errors on the lines following that...

    Remember to turn the client trace back to the original settings as VV logging can slow Outlook and produce large log files.

    Are you using Exchange Cached Mode?  If you are, try disabling it and doing another rebuild.  It could be a problem with the Content Cache..

    Dear Richard
    if i activate the log level minimum tracing, restart the Outlook and select one of the Mails in the virtual vault, the preview isn't available.
    In the EventLog there is no [Common::GetFullItem]
    If i open the email to see the body content i got the "GetFullItem" see below, and some lines later some errors...
    Whats wrong? Any Idea?

    At this level of logging many "errors" are the result of normal interactions between various layers of code. I'm not sure about that one in particular but I don't think it is related to your problem.

    Can you post the text shown in the "Enterprise Vault Information" dialog - available from "Help | About Enterprise Vault | Tech Info..." or from the "Vault Information" button on the "Enterprise Vault Diagnostics" dialog.

    That all looks OK. I think that a full client trace is required when the problem (no reading pane content) is happening. Set tracing at maximum and include Virtual Vault logging. Restart Outlook, select the item in VV, observe the lack of reading pane content, post the log here if its not excessively large.
