Installing 2.5 patch on a unconfigured NB 5220 appliance

Hello,

I'm trying to install the 2.5 patch on an unconfigured a NB5220 appliance.

The upgrade fails because of self test. Attached the whole log.

It seems the upgrade fail because of the backup and restore test. It's normal because there isn't a Master Server to connect. I want this appliance becomes a Master after upgrade.

I found this TN but this is not my case (OPS test runs fine).

  • You cannot patch one until it is configured due to the failure of the self tests

If you would rather not configure it first then check the paperwork as you may find it came with a 2.5 USB stick - if not ask support for one and they will send it you - you can then boot from it and image it straight as 2.5

    Hope this helps

  • A couple of suggestions that may or may not be of any help:

What version of the software is on the appliance at present - if it's less than 2.02 (can't remember exact version - sorry) and the appliance hasn't been commissioned, there may be an issue with the temporary license on the appliance having run out - you will need to restart the appliance and get to the BIOS settings and change the date back - there are instructions about this scenario on the Symantec forums.

If the above is not the case, then it could be a simple case of not all services being in a running state, so check to make sure all Netbackup services are running on the appliance.prior (or indeed during the install) - I recall having 2 sessions going - one that was doing the upgrade and the other trying to keep the services up and running.

  • Thanks for your answer.

The applaince is not configured then:

    - is not decommissioned

    - NetBackup services can't run.

    Actual version is 2.0.1.

A solution can be configuring the appliance as a master then perform the upgrade, but I would know if there is a more elegant solution.

  • Thanks for your answer.

I don't have a 2.5 USB key, then I configured the appliance as a Master (I could this because it had the 2.0.1 version) and I did the upgrade.

    Thanks again.

  • No problem - always worth asking for keys to keep you up to date - they are free!

PS - don't forget to close the thread off by using the "Mark as solution" option
