HP 3PAR - Integration with NetBackup

Guys,

I am looking for a some tech notes / KBs on integrating the HP 3PAR with NetBackup.

Please share your experiences and documents on how to achieve it.

Thanks

  • Seems NBU Snapshot client does not support 3PAR (yet)...

Have a look at the Arrays section of NetBackup 7 Snapshot Client (CL):     http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH126901

BUT it could possibly be supported under this section in the Introduction:

    VSS Providers
Symantec has an open support policy for VSS snapshots. If an array vendor supports a VSS provider for a Windows platform, Symantec will support Local Snapshot, Alternate Client, FlashBackup Local Snapshot, and FlashBackup Alternate Client methods on all supported NetBackup Snapshot Clients. This support includes Windows virtual machines using VMware RDM disks or Hyper-V Pass-Thru disks. This support also includes NetBackup for Hyper-V backups of VM snapshots. If your array is not listed in the tables below, check with the array vendor to verify VSS provider support. If the vendor supports a VSS provider, the array is supported with this open model.

My experience with HP array snapshots is limited to HP EVA and works exactly as documented in the snapshot client manual.
Chapter 8 covers VSS under Configuration of software-based snapshot methods.

  • What exactly do you want to do with HP 3PAR?

    Use as disk Storage unit?

If so - Basic or Advanced disk? Or Media Server Dedupe?

Or hardware based snapshots with NBU snapshot client?

Which OS on Master/Media server? Which NBU version?

If Advanced disk, have a look at AdvancedDisk Arrays in NetBackup 7 Hardware Compatibility List (HCL):    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH76495

  • I intend to use 3PAR as a storage to host VMware, SQL and Exchange.

I want to use NetBackup  to backup the "Virtual Copy snapshots" using the hardware based snapshots with NBU snapshot client?

We have Windows 2008 based Media/Master servers and NBU ver. is 7.1

Most of the clients are Windows 2008 based...

thanks for your response in advance.
