NBEMM Don't Start (Error 334)

Hi,

My NBEMM service don't start and in the event viewer I have the message EMM interface initialization failed, status = 334.

Someone knows about this error?

    Let's go to the solution.
     
    The engineer that was in the case explain to me that the master server name in the instalation needs to be different that microsoft cluster name and I was puting the same name.
     
    In the cluster configuration, the Ip addres needs to be different that the nodes and different that the cluster.  The virtual hostname, needs to be the same that master server name, but only hostname.
     
    Example.
     
     
    Nodes:
    server1.nbu.local (10.0.0.1)
    server2.nbu.local (10.0.0.2)
    Cluster: cluster.nbu.local (10.0.0.3)
     
    Master server name
    server.nbu.local
     
    Cluster Configuration
    Ip address: 10.0.0.4
    Virtual hostname: server
     
    After I configured the instalation correctly, finally works.

    Troubleshooting:
    In some cases where this issue has been seen, one or more Network cards were found to be using dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP).

    Running a "netstat -a" command will show a connection in a "SYN_SENT" state.
    TCP nbbackup:4529 16.24.12.14:156 SYN_SENT

     

    Resolution:
    As it is standard practice to use static internet protocol's (IP's) in a server environment, ensure that DHCP is not used in order to avoid this and other Network Communication related difficulties.  Configure Network Interface Card(s) on the NetBackup server to use a Static IP.  This is done within the transmission control protocol (TCP)/IP properties of the network card.  For further information on how to do this correctly in your environment, please consult the appropriate Windows documentation or help files.

    Which OS? Which NBU version? Did you check for 'disk full' condition?

    Please stop NBU from cmd and also PBX. Start PBX and then NBU. Do 'bpup -f -v' when you start.

    If EMM does not come up, please check EMM log with : vxlogview -o 111 -t 00:05:00     (assuming you have tried to start in the last 5 minutes).

    Yes Marianne,

     

    The cluster now is OK... Successfull on both nodes.

    But now my EMM is not UP... and the service don't start.

    In the event viewer appear that message "EMM interface initialization failed, status = 334"

    I don't know what to do.

    Am I correct if I say that the node names in the nbemm log posted above look different to the node names in your other post?

    I still feel that we do not have all relevant info...

    Please try the following:

    Use services manager to stop all NBU services, including PBX.

    Start PBX service (Symantec Private Branch Exchange) , followed by NetBackup Relational Database Manager, then NetBackup Enterprise Media Manager service.

    Open cmd (remember to Run as Administrator).

    cd  <install-path>\netbackup\bin
    bpps                 (nbemm will hopefully be running)
    nbdb_ping


    cd admincmd
    nbemmcmd -listhosts

     

    Please post all output.

    No, The names are the same.

    Node 1: SNBUMASTERP1 (10.190.240.7)

    Node 2: SNBUMASTERP2 (10.190.240.37)

    EMM: NBU (10.190.240.199)

    Virtual Host: NBUP1 (10.190.240.57)

    So you have a 2-node master server cluster:

    Node 1: SNBUMASTERP1 (10.190.240.7)

    Node 2: SNBUMASTERP2 (10.190.240.37)

    Virtual Host: NBUP1 (10.190.240.57)

     

    Where does the EMM server fit into the picture?

    EMM: NBU (10.190.240.199)

    Is this a totally different server?

     

    The vxlogview output above says the following:

    LocalHost = <nbup1>, EmmServer = <nbu.sp.local>

    This does not look the same as output provided above?

    Please help me to understand your environment....

    I have attached the topology picture.

    The Microsoft Cluster has three nodes. Two phisical nodes (SNBUMASTERP1 and SNBUMASTERP2) and one virtual node (NBU). At the moment of Netbackup's instalation, in the cluster configuration I need to put the IP address that the application is run (10.190.240.57). therefore I have four IP address.
